No item, no skill embark.
« on: June 05, 2011, 10:27:18 pm »

Embarking with absolutely nothing. Nothing at all. No skills, no items.

I wanted the challenge of it. First thing I am going to do is deconstruct the wagon and gather plants.

I'll make a farmers workshop so that I can process the plants, then I'll make a carpenters workshop and have a training axe made.

I will update with what goes on every time something new, interesting, or important happens.

let's see how this goes...

Okay, I ended up getting a male water buffalo and a female one-humped camel pulling the wagon. There are also wild Yaks and Hoary Marmots.

I have 2 carpenters workshops, 2 farmers workshops, and 2 still made. Once these plants are processed, I will have some seeds to start growing more. I have two nine plot farms set up so far, and will add more when needed.

My little village is also set up in an area of a cliffside that dips in a little bit, essentially making it naturally defended by only allowing attackers to hit it from 1 side. I will set up walls after I have the basic survival needs met.

I also plan on making some traps ASAP and trapping these wild yaks for milk, meat, and fur.

You had best hope they bring a anvil that autumn, and picks, or material to make them.
Better make a wooden crossbow, and bolts for hunting, post haste. Reserve plants for brewing.
Build a butcher shop, butcher the draft animals for meat, also a kitchen, rendered fat is a food source.
The farmers workshop will help with milking, making cheese, producing thread for cloth. Better give everyone the herbalist skill

3 people are all farming, 2 are all fishing, 2 are woodworkers.

Making a fishery now...

I have 2 people set to hunting now!

Only 1 quiver so far though. I butchered my male water buffalo. Once my existing hunter kills something I'll make another quiver.

Also, just got a migrant wave. Only 2 people Dx. a woodcutter/carpenter and a bowyer. The bowyer is set to farming instead, and the other guy is set to crafting, metalsmithing, carpentry, masonry, mechanics, architecture, etc. He had skills in most of those.

From what I've seen, beehives are kinda bugged, and are a lot of work for little reward.

I think it should be relatively low maintenance. I make 18 beehives, half of which are set to only be split, and the other half set to be harvested when ready. The screw press should automatically turn it into honey, which I can use to make alcohol, which I desperately need right now (I can't plant any of my seeds on my farms for some reason, which means I can't farm distillable plants! D:)

Any soil type above ground you can build a farm plot on. Ignore buggy message.
Strawberrys grow year-round. The other above ground plots crops have specific seasons, not hinted at on plot menu. Look to the wiki for info.
Screw presses need 2 mechanisms , I think.
Use the herbalists to collect wild plants, that you can brew. Trade for stone, to make mechanisms for a well, blocks, and a rope
