minotaur the weakling

I just embarked new dwarves, none of which had ANY skills in fighting. I immediately had a minotaur against me. My three fighting dogs had it, only scratching the minotaur, but after I (out of despair) drafted all my dwarves, the first dwarf to get to minotaur, killed it instantly.
I doubt minotaurs should die this easily.

So... he had no weapon? He just... punched it?

Wow. No wonder these guys can mine entire mountains so quickly.

Was the responsible dwarf a miner with a pick, by any chance?  If so, your answer for why the minotaur died as quickly as it did is that picks do a respectable 70 damage and use mining skill; a Talented or better miner is like having a Talented or better speardwarf, only without the tendency for criticals.

Ah, that must be it, though he was proficient at most. I guess iron pick did it then.
I guess I won't be sparring my dwarves any more, I just make them mine all day long  :D
