Merchant leaves through Cavern

Pretty funny thing happened today.
My entire workforce is employed thanks to dfvdig my legendary miner's acumen. So I have time to just look at stuff being done. I see the merchants leave my trade depot and am intrigued - they're not leaving the same way they came in.

Never saw a human merchant have the balls to exit your fortress through level -75. Got any good ones?

They can leave through any map edge on any level as long as there's walking space.

Never saw a human merchant have the balls to exit your fortress through level -75. Got any good ones?

It seems you have the balls to keep the entrance wide open for all these nice FBs ;)

It seems you have the balls to keep the entrance wide open for all these nice FBs ;)

Most FB's aren't much of a threat anyways, and are quite rare. But yeah, merchants can leave through the caverns. Any merchant, in fact.

The best of the best however, is forcing a caravan to leave on the 5th underground level, that is to say Hell. Bonus points if they had *spiked steel balls* for sale.

Yeah, use the first cavern level for all of my caravan departures. Those caravans that do not die before getting to my base from having a seige or ambush appear the moment they spawn that is (which is quite likely considering I use the Fortress Defense mod). Maybe I should construct some Deep Roads to make things official.

The best of the best however, is forcing a caravan to leave on the 5th underground level, that is to say Hell. Bonus points if they had *spiked steel balls* for sale.

Abusing AI patchfinding in videogames is hillarious.

I actually remember someone saying that any elves who leave through that place would earn his respect. Or was it you?

Try walling your whole map off with dfliquids. Open the caverns, if not already made. See what happens.
