Just got a Legendary migrant

It's rare, but possible.

Usually I'll see a high master or so in a large/lucky wave.   Much more often I see a jack-of-all-farming show up with 1-3 ranks in every single farming/butchering/etc skill.

Or a high master woodcrafter...  or fish cleaner...

Is there even a point to being a High Master Fish Cleaner?

Woodcutter nothing. I once got a legendary weaponsmith migrant in the second migrant wave on a map with copious iron, coal, and flux. Too bad he didn't like steel. I don't think he liked any metal.

How about legendary ones? They simply look at the bad parts, which then run off in fear?

Doesn't matter much - once they're Legendary +5, they no longer get any bonuses from metal preferences.  It's only at lower skill levels that you should really care what metals / materials / objects they like.

Wait a sec... dwarves get bonuses from working with materials they like? What kind of bonuses? Item quality? Work speed?

Average quality - as far as I understand it, they get treated as if their skill level was two points higher, to max of Legendary +5 (the cap for all skills as far as produced results).

My favorite near Legendary so far was the Master Liar I had show up.  He had no other skills.

I sat there for a few minutes contemplating just what that meant as far as how he got himself into the migrant group in the first place.  Of course he became a hauler, I couldn't trust him to do anything else.

My first legendary migrant was a butcher, but I've gotten some legendary military dwarves come with important nobles.

Imagine how that must have looked like when he signed up to the migrant wave.

I've only had one Legendary migrant, and it was a wood burner, and through a danger room and two sieges I turned him into an Axe Lord. I like to put my migrants to actual use.
