Pretty self-explaining:

I don't think that is a bug. Sometimes you get a legendary dwarf before they are full grown by this; just consider them child prodigies.

Hmm?  Do child prodigies like that get the ability to work like an adult before they're full-grown?  That makes a certain amount of sense, I guess...

It's somewhat odd, since a child can be as young as one year old, but it was intended.  They have the same work abilities.

The real question is, where did Dwarven child labor laws come from? Back in my days, if you were old enough to walk, you were old enough to grab a pick and die in a magma flood!

They discovered that too much stress during this crucial period inhibits further beard growth.

no, they just make their artifact and then go back to being a child. when they grow up, they turn into a legendary peasant until you make them do the task they're legendary at, then they turn into the proper profession.

Legendary peasants? I figured they had to exist if you only had one dwarf do nothing but deforest a map for years, but...

Legendary operators are also peasants  ;).

I like having children accessible to moods, though, but have only had "crafter" type children. Is there a preference to what kind of skill they go legendary in, or will it always default to a craft of some sort (or maybe farmer if they've been helping with the field work)?
