There are lots of "men's rights" things I support (such as child custody issues, awareness of male domestic abuse/rape, along with some smaller cultural things like men being expected to pay for dates). The idea of women "encroaching" on male dominated hobbies is utterly ridiculous, though.

My view on sexism is always thus: A bullshit double standard is a bullshit double standard. I don't care who's getting unfairly treated, positively or negatively. It needs to stop. "Someone else has it worse" is a terrible reason to dismiss problems, though it's a fine reason for triaging them (income inequality is vastly more important and deserves more attention than who's paying for dates, for example).

It should also be added that previously, the reason why men paid for dates and wedding rings was to show women that they could support them financially.  You know, because the women weren't making any money.  The wedding ring was basically a chunk of liquid money for a woman who needed to leave an abusive relationship (and why not for the man? because again, he could actually draw down an income pretty easily).

A lot of the things men complain about as unfair are things that came in naturally as counter-balances to the positions that women were handed.  They'll probably leave along with the things that affect women disproportionally.

Actually, the modern jeweled wedding ring was started by a catalog in the 1920's as a way for them to make money selling said rings, and it was so successful it got embedded in people's cultural norms. The practice of the rings themselves is quite older, but I don't think they're that valuable without diamonds or whatnot.

And the diamonds are only valuable because their price is artificially inflated.

Well yeah that's the hope. I find it likely that if said problems like income inequality get fixed, there will still be women out there expecting men to be "chivalrous" or somesuch and pay for dates/open doors/etc. And I will mock them :P Just like I'm mocking the men in that kotaku article. Both share an entitlement complex based on gender roles they expect others to follow.

But certainly. If we stop assuming women are helpless and "the weaker sex," male domestic abuse/rape will become accepted as something that exists instead of being ignored. If we stop labeling women as the default child rearers who's place is the home, men might actually get fair custody trials. Won't fix the problems entirely but will help. Win-win.

I've never understood the "people will marry animals" slippery slope fallacy. I mean, what's stopping people from doing that right now? People can hold a marriage ceremony wedding whoever and whatever they want, at any time. Certainly they won't get any tax breaks or anything, but even if it WAS socially acceptable I don't think they'd get any tax breaks or anything there, either.

All this "sanctity of marriage" bullshit is just a cover for "we think what you're doing is gross and want to flip you the bird."

Nonsense. They're valuable because of their utility! I mean, they're really, really hard! And shiny! These are valuable traits in our society.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go open my factory where we glue rhinestones to chunks of granite. Shit will be so cash.

You mean like me being sick of having to carry my fucking birth certificate if I need to take a piss on in the state of Tennessee? Yes, let's keep from having to adjust to accomodate others (by doing nothing) by making a hugely overcomplicated fix that forces everyone to make unreasonable accomodations. </insanetrolllogic>  ::)

The logic here seems to be that TG women are actually men who want to be women in order to perv on women. Rep. Floyd saw one too many episodes of Bosom Buddies, methinks. I'm not denying that some men could abuse such a privilege, but abuse of a privilege by a few is not sufficient grounds to deny the privilege outright. Otherwise, we'd have repealed the 2nd Amendment a long time ago.

He's definitely right about this:

Is it wrong to assume that if someone wants to look female, that they expect to be treated as a female (or vice versa) without little conditions being thrown in the way? Cant get it into my head why people need to be so constantly judgemental about others.

It's a lot more than "wants to look female". Wanting to dress like what you perceive as the opposite gender and wanting to identify as what you perceive as the opposite gender are not quite the same thing. A bit pedantic, but yeah.

Yea, "wants to be" should have been the term I used. Apologies for any offence.

Because some people don't understand a guy wanting to be female (or vice versa) and lots of people tend to be scared of what they don't understand.
You'll often hear people say that transgendered people are "dangerous" and yet never offer any real explaination as to why.
It's just that it's easier to judge than to understand.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Honestly I think politicians have far to much free time if they are making bills like these.  Is making sure people use a particular washroom really the most important issue in America at the moment?

The next logical step after same sex marriage is polygamous and group marriage. That is the end of the chain of consensual marriages that are currently being oppressed by law based on specific religious doctrines.

It is the only one that actually adds new issues and complexity to marriage.
In the event of disability which spouse has legal and medical priority?
How does legal guardianship of children work?
Is there an option for partial divorce in group marriages?
How is property and custody handled in the event of a divorce/death?

Just something from Vector's post about facials:

"“Noted bravely” the narrator praised lavishly. Yes, while genitalia is generally considered to be shameful, people with penises aren’t subjected daily to ad campaigns created to convince them their business needs to to be completely redecorated before a sexual partner would even consider going near them"

That writer never got e-mail to "Enlarge yur peniz"? Every porn site is littered in ads that goes "No need to fap anymore. Grow 2 inches of dick and score a real chick tonight!".

Now, I get the argument that women generally have it worse than men, but that doesn't mean men don't face anything either....
