For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I enjoy pointing out how if god knows everything then he knew what would happen when he created us and did it anyway.

Ergo, he not only allows every action regardless of what the bible said but actually created it in the first place.

Just because you made a random number generator doesn't mean you know the result to every seed.

'Course "omniscience" kinda debunks that theory.

A better metaphor is you made a RNG knowing the first seed, and when it created that seed you sent it to hell for eternal torture.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why freedom OF religion means freedom FROM religion....

Could you please clarify the difference? I'm serious. All I can find is that freedom from religion is utter secularism with religion relegated to private places. Is that it?

Freedom from religion means that no religion can impose itself on people who choose not to follow it. Nothing more, nothing less.

For me that would include any state/government support/endorsement of religion. Tax money going to support a faith is an imposition. Public figures using government established authority to promote a religion is an imposition. Any legal favour of one faith over another is an imposition1.

Public displays of religion are fine, but when it's private citizens practising by choice.

Yes.

Freedom of religion is the freedom to believe what one wants, including nothing.

That can't happen without freedom from religion, namely other people's.

This is a reciprocal obligation which means you buzz off and don't bother other people too....

Alright everyone, let's make a law, and have it be ALLLL about religion, whose religion should we use:

[Everyone raises their hand immediately and says], "Mine."
Problem: they all clash. Some people's religions think dancing is immoral, others alcohol, whatever. Can't work together can they

This is why you can't legislate morality, because all religions and various denominations/sects clash, period. Much as some people love to say, "there is only one God," that's kind of offensive to all the other religions out there isn't it? It sort of implies that there's isn't real and yours is. Aren't you a special snowflake and aren't they shit.... It's OKl if you want to think that but to expect others to and especially with the whole bullshit "War on Christmas," thing.... Shut up and say happy holidays.... You're not the only one whose religion is valid.

I find this especially stupid when assholes try to "correct" people who work at retail stores when they say "Happy Holidays" by saying "You mean Merry Christmas."

No.... That person just works there and they do what they're told by their boss if they want to keep their job. They have been told what to say, just like they've been told to stand there, smile and nod, while putting up with your bullshit as they slowly die inside from it.

Freedom of religion means freedom from religion. It's the only way it works.

I feel like I should answer this. Orthodox are in favour of flat* icons. Catholics are ok with any icon.

*Literally flat. A portrait or such.

Definitely, consider the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Icon city. Icon is defined as a "religious work of art, most commonly a painting". Catholic churches are covered in these. Even stained glass windows showing Jesus are icons. The reformation was anti-icon in the west.

"In Eastern Christianity and other icon-painting Christian traditions, the icon is generally a flat panel painting depicting a holy being or object such as Jesus, Mary, saints, angels, or the cross.". There's no shortage of these images in Catholicism either.

"The abundant use and veneration historically accorded images in the Roman Catholic Church was a point of contention for Protestant reformers, who varied in their attitudes toward images. In the consequent religious struggles many works of art were destroyed, and there was also iconoclasm, or destruction of images, often by force, in all Protestant regions. Notable episodes were in England during the English Reformation, and then more severely in the English Civil War, in Flanders in the Beeldenstorm, and in France during the Wars of Religion."

Thanks for the answer. Seems I would support it completely, as long as I can practice my outdated and backward ceremonies, yes.

Knock yourself out; just not anyone else unless they're into it too and agree to it beforehand.
