Err, why are you blaming him when other people are the ones who actually did the murder?

The dude and his book are both loony, but the blame lies on the parents who went through with the beatings, imo. They're the ones who did it of their own free will and volition. Direct your rage at them.
It's partly his fault because he advocated it. It's like hanging up posters with the personal details of abortion doctors on them, and with cross-hairs over their faces.

This has happened three times now, and that's just the ones we know about. You've seen the video. The very implements he talks about and his crazy book were found in all the cases involving this. I am raging at the parents, they should be locked up for the rest of their natural lives, but Pearl could stand to stare at the inside of a cell for a decade or four himself.

He isn't the source, just one messenger. There are many thousands of children in Independent Fundamentalist Baptist families who have been beaten to death, and, many thousands more driven to suicide by the abuse. It is dogmatic in that religion and has been for over a century. The only difference in this case is that the wrote it down instead of passing it on verbally and through careful selection of bible quotes.

Well the army must have someone to pick on and since the gays are in now, naturally they're targeting the women.... A ponytail, keeps your hair out of your face and is effective.... Reason and logic aside, "there's no time for pretty here." Between this and the "you must box in skirts," bullshit from last page (or so), it's clear what a woman wears is more important than what she does.... [sigh]

Is that the same guy who got a couple parents to smother their adopted child to death when attempting to make her experience some bizarre sort of rebirth to make her accept her adoptive parents?
Wasn't that an episode of "Law and Order"?

It was an actual case my wife read about in an intro level social work course.

I think this is the one.

Looks like this is referred to as attachment or re-birthing therapy, and has resulted in a couple (Edit:  Six according to Wikipedia) deaths.  That link is much more flattering of the procedure than the one I read before, which included many more details from the tape of the incident.  The therapists basically smothered this child in pillows, sat on top, and made fun of her while she protested being very slowly suffocated to death.

Edit:  And there's the Wikipedia page for the girl in question.  Ugh.  Need to stop myself now.  I was in constant horror for several days when I was first introduced to this, because I couldn't stop imagining myself in that kid's position.  I fall into empathic despair pits waaay too easily.

Ouch...

Ok, so I was going to respond to this:

It starts out as a discussion about tattoos so it seems to me they mainly just want everyone to appear cookie-cutter. Which of course means making them pansy female soldiers look as much like a big wholesome chunky hunk of man as possible.

From a military standpoint there may be some practical implications, but I think they really just don't want to avoid thinking of the women as women.

Why aren't women required to get buzzcuts like the military men?

Probably because they're trying to avoid the usual issues with "if a woman wants to do something, she must become masculine and completely lose her gender identity in order to do it."

The US military is apparently really fussy about the appearance of their soldiers. They have a very particular image for what they're allowed to look like in mind.

I'm impressed you found that image at all.

I have to say, she does look quite fetching.

I thought soldiers had to keep their hair short for practical purposes. Keep it out of the eyes, ungrabable and all that.

It's an interesting story.
Originally the practice was started around World War I when trench warfare meant that lice were a huge problem. Hence short hair to cut down on the issue. It's actually what made short hair more or less the standard for men, before then long hair was the fashion.
