In my defence, there's a difference between turning against somebody forever, and simply disagreeing on what looks good.

In my defense, I spend so much time wearing baggy clothing that covers me from neck to wrist, waist to ankle, that I appreciate a chance once in a while to dress myself up a little in something that approaches weather-appropriate.  Hell, I don't even wear makeup.  It's just nice to do something slightly different from time to time.

As far as I know you can't, in fact, deny a lifesaving intervention.
Which is what the act is changing.
Although I really doubt any doctor would choose to exercise the act even in the impossible scenario of it passing. Especially if the baby's father is present.

Really, denying anyone any life-saving treatment while a family member is around or they themselves can still move is asking to be attacked with lethal force for being an unbelievable bastard.

That, and doctors tend to be smart people who like saving lives, hence their profession. While I personally maintain my seething hatred for doctors, they usually have that going for them at the very least.

While I can't vouch for it's truthiness is any way:

My mother has actually worked part time at a catholic hospital as a midwife, and from what I understand the doctors there hate giving abortions even when it's an emergency.

She once nearly had a patient die because a doctor was refusing to do it, and the other doctor on call who would do it was missing.
Eventually the other doctor showed up and did it, but they were really panicking for a while.

This wouldn't require them to keep a doctor around to do the procedure, and Dr. Asshole could then let a patient die while in labour.

Honestly I doubt whatever you wear, falls in the category of "debauchery" we were talking about.
You make us sound a bit overly conservative, like if we would appreciate if women hid their faces >.>

I have no problem with any kind of summer clothing, so long as it is it stays in the "common-sense"-kind of decency.

In my defence, there's a difference between turning against somebody forever, and simply disagreeing on what looks good.

I hope this isn't a reference to earlier, because this is not exactly what I said/meant.

It's directly in reference to vector's apparent claim that I was against ankle showage.

Well neither am I. I may be prude, but I'm not a dwarf.

Nah, I'm not talking about ankles so much as the occasional skirt above the knee or a lower-cut blouse.

It's true, though, that I wouldn't wear those blouses if there was anything much to show off.

for me the cutoff point is midway between hip and knee. above that point the attractiveness is quickly overpowered by 'Girl, go put on some real clothes'

Here's a question for you, Japa:

What's your opinion of men who dresses sexualized? Imagine a buff man with an open shirt; he's obviously trying to look physically attractive. Is he just as bad as the women who dress "slutty"?

yes.

That said, I think you are over-estimating my displeasure.

it's more a mild annoyance than anything.

and physically attractive =/= show as much skin as you can get away with.

No complaints from me then~

I think it a bit silly, but oh well. So long as there's no "lock and key" sexist bullshit going on, I won't complain about your fashion pet peeves. Carry on :)

I thought "sleeze" was the male version of slut.  Sexual promiscuity is contained in both their definitions, with slightly different gender connotations.  Slut is a word with many varying connotations, depending on the speaker's own sexual morality.  Not everyone sees sluttiness as a bad thing.  However, sleeze always has negative connotations in the form of creepiness or even borderline predatory sexuality, and it's a term I've never heard used to describe a woman.

As for my personal opinion of the way people dress or behave sexually... I really don't care.  I have a very liberal outlook on that sort of thing.

However.

There is still social responsibility.  Sleeping around is fine, but don't be reckless about it.  Some people are off limits.  Some people are dangerous.  When I hear the word slut, it's usually identifying someone who is not just promiscuous, but has sex recklessly in ways that endanger themselves and others.

The same thing applies to clothing, to an extent.  I absolutely hate when women dress themselves in a sexualized fashion, because my wife is very jealous and paranoid.  Anytime we are together and encounter a female who could be considered conventionally attractive and is wearing clothes that are obviously designed to show skin or accentuate curves, it's just a huge source of stress for me.  All of a sudden, I have to try to function casually, while putting 90% of my attention into exactly where my eyes are at all times.  It's not that I need to keep myself from staring.  It's that I need to make it very very obvious that I am not, and I need to find excuses to be interested in things that are as far away from that person as possible, to ease the interrogation that is sure to come later as much as possible.

I understand the rhetoric about being liberated and comfortable with one's sexuality, and having the freedom to express that.  I don't have the right to deny anyone those things.  In a perfect world, it wouldn't be an issue... but since the world is far from perfect, I do have the right to ask people to be considerate, because some women have self-esteem issues and some men have to live with those women.

Personally it just makes me feel really awkward, but I don't hold it against people, I just blush a lot.

Err, I don't mean to be rude, but honestly I don't think it is at all the other women's fault here. You should be asking your wife to be considerate to them, not the other way around. Unreasonable jealousy means the problem is hers, not theirs.

Now I understand you might not be able to do anything about this, but understand the source of your stress is NOT the other women here.
