Reminded me of this study and "shonky award" given by consumer rights magazine Choice to the Nurofen company in 2010:

Quote
Got a headache? Backache? Neck ache? A trip to your pharmacy or supermarket reveals there are specific painkillers for all sorts of pains: back pain, tension headache pain, migraine pain, period pain, osteoarthritis pain, neck pain, little toe pain … Panadol has a few pain-specific products, but Nurofen has more, with a range of caplets for migraine, back, tension headache and period pain. Yet a closer look at the ingredients shows they’re identical from product to product.
[...]
But the shonkiest aspect of this type of marketing is that the fast-acting painkillers labelled for specific pain types are more expensive – costing almost twice as much in some stores we surveyed – than their “all-pain” fast-acting equivalent, Zavance caplets, which contains a comparable fast-acting form of ibuprofen. Our advice? Stick with Zavance

So, the Nurofen company who's motto is "Targetted Relief For Pain" sell expensive pills labelled as for "period pain" which are exactly identical to their cheapest general product.

All you might get is the placebo effect.

ignorance + misogyny mostly from a long time ago -> feeling of dirtiness passed into matriarchal line + "eew cooties" stage in dudes -> insecurity in certain women -> THIS -> modern guys: "... uh, WTF?" and modern ladies who aren't doing it: "IT'S THE MEN'S FAULT AS USUAL" and companies: *corrupt giggling*

Sounds like exactly what I was thinking.  It's nice to hear an understanding that every ad selling or pushing ridiculous crap like this for women isn't a reflection of all men, or really any worthwhile number of men.  You can sell anything to somebody, and there's an awful lot of weird, indeed "degrading" stuff that women buy and do to supposedly look appealing that most straight men never asked for or think about.

Sweatpants with stuff written on the ass come to mind.  That one will never make sense to me.

Sweatpants outside the home or gym will never make sense to me. It feels like I'm wearing pyjamas.

Yeah, I have no desire to announce my ass as juicy.  That's just... WTF.  I'll also add that I don't understand "gladiator sandals" on tiny girls wearing clothes they could never fight in or Ugg boots in warm climes.  That's just me, though.

There's a huge amount of stuff I'd be prone to lump in the same category if I didn't know better, and am instead putting under "reasonable fetishes/beauty ideals."  Of course, this includes leg shaving and high heels, so I'm sure you can understand why >_>

Am I the only one who figures that the only logical interpretation of "juicy ass" involves excessive sweating? This is not an appealing combination of words, is my point.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

. . . No, they're talking about a surplus of vaginal fluid.

I don't think it's anything of the sort.  It's borrowing a term from fruit, i.e. peaches.  This is part of why most of this stuff doesn't make any sense to the crowd here, is easy to overthink and take it too literally.

@Lysabild: Go for it.

@Aqizzar: ... Really?  Because seriously, I've had this impression for a pretty long time.  It's just like... how could it not be referring to that?

EDIT: If this turns into the biggest argument of the thread, I will cry.

That's the way I've always heard it.  "Peach" has been slang for basically whatever you want it to be for a long time, butts especially for obvious reasons, and it made an easy transition.  Always seemed pretty straightforward to me.

I grew up when peaches were peaches and the only reason you even thought about them was Japanese yuri porn.

*sigh*

The times, they are a changin.

It never even occured to me to think of "juicy ass" as meaning anything other than a comparison to round  fruit (i.e squeezable round buttocks). Thanks for the mental scarring, Vector ;)

I dunno. That's how I said it, and I say my friend Eva has a juicy ass all the time!

... Really she has a nice ass. The ass jokes never stop.

... What an awkward first post here.

It's supposed to be a thread about "Progressive"... something?  Politics I think.  We've spent a page talking about slang terms for asses, it's all awkward.

Yep, if it were comonly understood to be an excess of vaginal fluid (I don't understand biology that well so I don't even know how that works) I'm fairly certain it'd be more taboo to say than it is now. I always assumed it was equating it with a fruit.

That's still weird, but somehow acceptably so.
