Not big enough to justify the discrimination. I've played against a few girl that were good at rugby, and my sisters, adept at karate, did ok against most male. That being said, men have a huge advantage, if they care to push it, because they gain muscle way easier, and are usually bigger and heavier. I'd say that if anything, non mixed sport allow for a better recognition of women, if anyone care to follow it (like in tennis, swimming and athletism).

Tournament officials convened a protest committee and brought in five D2 members for questioning. In a conference room filled with about 25 people, many of them strangers, the players were asked questions about their sexuality and private lives. The protest committee then voted on whether the men were gay.
This is just so weird... this isn't a common thing at all, right?

The physical differences between men and women (on average) are not that big.

Are you sure?
"Not that big" is far from measurable, heh. I'll concede a bit here; steroids are derived from testosterone, after all. I maintain that it's not a big enough difference to be a concern in amateur leagues, though.

I can't really refute this except to say that that's not how it is in my experience. The USA has a women's basketball league as mentioned earlier (WMBA), and though it has enough notice to be profitable, it's still very very much overshadowed by the men's league.

It's not always the women leagues getting the short end of the stick either (though it is 95% of the time or more). IIRC, my high school had both a men's and a women's volleyball team. I don't think I ever heard anything about the men's one except that it existed.

Well that doesn't make me at all irritated or annoyed. Just sounds like good journalism to me. You know a story is important when even the investigator ends up being a victim and it doesn't sound like any other local station decided to bother with it. If people are getting tricked by purchasing illegally foreclosed homes they need to know about it. Kudos to that station for actually doing their job.

I have been involved in playing and coaching disc sports (most high profile - Ultimate Frisbee) for a number of years from grassroots level to a reasonably high standard - UK national championship level. Ultimate is a mixed gender sport. There are specific mixed gender and female only events, but the highest profile level of play is "open" - no restiction on male or female numbers. The top teams only have male players, with the propertion of male to female becoing closer to 50/50 the lower you go in seedings. The reason is simple - even the best elite female players stand no realistic chance competing against an average high level male player who is around 6 ins to a foot taller, has a higher vertical leap, greater reach and is at least a second or 2 faster over 50 meters. As a result the top female players play female only events instead of playing on an uneven level. So allow mixed sports as much as you like, just dont expect too much of an impact at high levels.

Man I wouldn't be able to remember an arbitrary date almost a year away either.

Though the voting age thing is pretty silly.

Perhaps his comments were not intended to be a factual statement.

@kaijyuu: If I were running for President, I think I'd bother to remember what day it is that I want everyone to go vote for me.

Rick Perry: Putting the "goober" in "gubernational".

Perry also thinks any Federal employees who disagree with him should be "reassigned to some really God-awful place".

Which, based on past comments, would include 99% of the State Department. Many of whom already work in godawful places. As someone who would give his left arm to work for the Foreign Service, those kind of comments just make me want to toss Perry over a cliff with a wet parachute.

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/republicans-offer-100-reward-photo-sen-bob-casey-173127437.html

I really want to find a loophole in contract law where they have to pay $100/photo. I really do. Then of course, just and entirely to piss him off, I'd donate every cent to the political cause he hates most, whatever that may be.

They have no ideas, none, at all. Jobs, not who's hanging out with whom. Also if a 42% approval rating for Obama is "dismal" then what's a 9% approval rating for congress?

Edit: Everyone knows I hate Rick Perry. He keeps giving me reasons to do so....

Looking at the rest of the republican nominees, I can safely say Obama's second term in a foregone conclussion

I don't know. I expect a near 100% turnout among conservatives. And Obama isn't particularly popular among the left any more. I know I don't like him. I will only be voting for him to keep cthulhu out of office.

Edit: I am hoping to vote Occupy in 2016 (and sooner at a local and state level).
