Grr... always fighting the urge to grow my hair back out again.

Totally want it shoulder blade length again. That was pretty as hell and I miss it.

Probably because they're trying to avoid the usual issues with "if a woman wants to do something, she must become masculine and completely lose her gender identity in order to do it."
I just mean the general convenience of having hair short enough to see the scalp. Less hassle to clean, you don't need to tie it up to keep it out of the way, helmets/equipment fit better, no danger of parasites, etc.

It seems like something I would want from the military, even if just for direct combat roles. Leadership/management roles would probably have regulations in place for this, I have difficulty imagining a professional female general forced to keep her hair down and unbundled and staying professional looking.

I typically avoid letting my hair grow longer than stubble - on the odd occasions I grow it longer, I quickly revert back due to the hassle of combing, cleaning and so on. The benefits of this to a soldier seem clear. Now, my goatee on the other hand.... lol.

Don't they force everyone to cut their hair very short in the army, usually?

So uh... women basically automatically look unprofessional?

And as far as I can tell there is some freedom in the male haircut so long as it maintains a "tapered appearance" and follows another paragraph of arbitrary regulations.  And damn, I know appearance in the military is important, but does there really need to be 362 pages on it?

I really don't care so long as there aren't different standards for each gender. If they wanna give the option for ponytails or whatever, that's fine; just give it to everyone. I sure as hell wouldn't want to lose MY ponytail :3

Same goes for the boxing skirts from a while back. I don't care provided 1) it's not forced, and 2) it's not limited to one gender. Options are always good, and if it's a stupid option, no one will take it anyway.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

As a fellow buzz cutter... it's the easiest hair to maintain... less worrying about hair, more about important things like living and fun.  Though, I'm a bit shamed to admit (due to social equality, etc.), I do not find it attractive on women.  I'm attracted to long hair, always have been.

Actually... no, I don't think this is always the case.  Sometimes there are options which are "good" for one player but which make it more dangerous for everyone involved.  For instance, allow hockey players to not wear helmets and players could individually gain an advantage by not wearing one, but the game wouldn't be any better to watch and a lot more people would get injured.  Same goes for gloves in boxing or performance enhancing drugs.

I suppose skirts in boxing probably don't go into this category though.

Personally I quite like having longish hair, it's nice to have something to run my fingers through, trouble is that I inevitably get forced to have a hair cut because I wind up looking like this guy:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I really think women should be allowed to have buzz cuts.
Heck I'd even say they should get their heads shaved when they enter boot camp with the rest of the recruits. The double standards for women and men are really irritating, the segregation I can understand as the boys can get rather... handsy. But if they want to women should be allowed to sleep unsegregated. There also seems to be a thing where the military is worried about going "too hard" on women. Isn't going hard on them supposed to be kind of the point? The military shouldn't be afraid to (metaphorically) beat some discipline into it's female soldiers the same way it does with male ones.

This is quite an interesting way to describe the frequent reports of rape and sexual abuse in the US army.

Unless granted plenty of free time to adjust the style of long hair to keep it from moving around, as it wants to do, it will start to get everywhere unless time is taken to style it decently. This is what I presume is the nature of long hair and my interpretation of professional styling.

If you want to extend my analysis of long hair to all women then please feel free to.

Unless you, say, tie it in some way...?

I was just wondering why you'd be "polite" to people who are performing acts of sexual abuse, pretty much to the extent where you reduce the seriousness of what they do (and then advocate making it easier for them to perform said sexual abuse).

Unless you, say, tie it in some way...?
I was orchestrating my point around how silly this whole thing is, and how this could possibly be raised as an issue when we have already had servicewomen in leadership positions that must have tied their hair or something. The only possible alternative is this bizarre situation I was working with.

I do apologize for not constructing my point well enough.
