My only question is this. Does it make them smell of roses and mead? Because just about everything is better if it smells of such. I would endorse such a product meant for any application, with the possible exceptions of deadly poison (just isn't a safe idea) or roses and mead (kind of redundant, if you ask me).

Then again, given that the commercial is clearly structured as "You're worse for not doing this" instead of "Hey this'd be a nice choice", and the lack of any discussion of the product's actual merits... I expect there are no redeeming qualities here. Just standard, "Change your genitalia or be forever a lesser person for not meeting some arbitrary standard that doesn't make any kind of sense" bullshit.

Actually, there's a long history of making women ashamed for being smelly and dirty, and this is just the next installment.  You know that women weren't allowed on the altar of churches in the past because their genitalia were considered filthy, right?

I know that I, too, was warned extensively about keeping myself really clean or else "men would smell me."

Folks also sell some sort of dye or other repigmentation scheme to recolor the labia to the "right" shade of pink.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. This is by no means new bullshit. It's just bullshit masquerading as non-bullshit by superficially "empowering" women ("Hey, your vagina gives you power over men!").

Also, in response to that last post, is there a man alive who actually cares what color are the labia of the woman he's having sex with? Seriously? What the hell, hypothetical dude? There have got to be more productive uses of your complaining powers!

To be fair, one of the arguments I've heard in favor of circumcision is that it makes the penis smell better.  Still bullshit IMNSHO.  Nothing can really top that commercial though.

I interpretted it to be more about the expectations people have about the human body.  It's actually interesting what bodily functions we consider gross, and which ones we're more okay with.  It's not consistent from culture to culture either.

Coloring the labia? I didn't know this stuff was a thing until recently. A few days ago I heard about vijazzling. I didn't know it existed until recently, but it did not make a good first impression. As a female friend explained to me, it's the result of a man getting down there and pausing to think "this could do with some redecorating..."

Yeah, what I'm sort of suspecting happening was

ignorance + misogyny mostly from a long time ago -> feeling of dirtiness passed into matriarchal line + "eew cooties" stage in dudes -> insecurity in certain women -> THIS -> modern guys: "... uh, WTF?" and modern ladies who aren't doing it: "IT'S THE MEN'S FAULT AS USUAL" and companies: *corrupt giggling*
