"Behavior Modification" Facility Survivor Story on Reddit
« on: June 03, 2011, 11:15:04 pm »

You know how you sometimes hear about those camps where they try to torture gay teenagers into being straight? Well, here's the account of a survivor of such a facility, known as Cross Creek.

I can't even put into words how mad this makes me, but at least the story is getting reposted across the internet, so I figured that I'd bring it to Bay 12's attention as well.

Thoughts?

Wow this is terrible, I feel extremely bad for the kids who are forced to go to these kind of schools.

That's just fucked up. Who in their right mind would send someone to a hellhole like that?

Well, that is a interesting question, and it does not have a right answer.

Almost certainly her mom was not in her right mind, i.e. she was wrong, for sending her there.

I have my prejudices, but holy hell. I understand not wanting your girl to become homosexual, but a step like that is a bit too... ex-damn streme.

Funny.  I don't.

Also, that's disgusting.  But thanks for sharing.

Was that directed at me for posting this or Megaman's comment?

As far as I understand, she added the word 'also', implying that she was commenting upon something else in the context of this thread, namely the article. Also it was on a new paragraph, and 'thanks for sharing' most likely would not have been directed to something as uninteresting as a random comment.

You for posting this.  The story is disgusting, but I appreciate your bringing it out there.

Funny.  I don't.

Look, I'm as tolerant or inclusive or whatever word you want to use as I could be, but you can't get too out of shape over a parent being leery of their child not being what they would think is normal.

That article though, doesn't need any further comment on what it is.  I will say that I find it rather hard to believe that there could be a company whose actual business to tug someone else's crying, nightgown-wearing dependent around by a belt in an airport, and not one person calls the cops or so much as asks a question.  How the Hell do they explain that one to a security screener?  Legal or not, most people are going to assume it's a very hamfisted kidnapping.

You'd be surprised how much people mind their own business, no one probably wanted any part of whatever was happening. Though the mind wonders about what happened during the security screening.

That's what I'm saying.  It's an airport, they employ an army of people whose whole job is to stop suspicious looking people, and they don't really give a shit about laws and permits.  If you're a security screener, and you see two very angry looking adult men dragging a bawling teenage girl by a dogleash, your job is to keep them from getting on a plane, at least until you get a terminal police officer there to verify that they do in fact have signed legal permission to bring a slave onboard.  And I bet they're not going to get that far, since the typical approach is "it's illegal and a threat at least until the next time it happens".

Dude, I'm just not exactly fond of the homophobia-defending comments here.

"Homophobia is okay as long as it's not to that extent!  I totes understand why she wouldn't want her kid to be gay!"

Of course I understand why she wouldn't want her kid to be gay.  There are all kinds of reasons for it.  On the other hand, in that context it seemed to turn into a justification.

But whatever, that doesn't matter... I'm making a thread for this >:[
