Narrative By Trope 2: Rebooted!
« on: June 03, 2011, 07:08:42 pm »

This is a revival of the now long dead Narrative By Trope. Here is the orginal premise:

Intro:
I had an idea for a good forum game in the style of typical world-builder threads. But instead of a world, we will be building a work of fiction. With tropes! Instead of writing the story directly, we'll tell it through trope examples. I'll start by posting a vague description as if I were writing the first paragraph of a TVTropes article, then subsequent posters will add onto the universe by writing trope examples. Each example must work within the increasingly explicit guidelines of the universe defined by previous examples, and a story will begin to form.

Rules:
Along with examples, feel free to add other tropish things, such as quotes, trivia, reviews, or even crowners (CMoA, HONF, etc.) and Wild Mass Guessing entries. Think outside the box

Let's actually write this like a TVTropes article, complete with an obnoxious amount of potholes alluding to even more tropes.

Try to stay consistent with previous posts. Failing that, though, we can always pull a retcon.

When it's agreed that we've gone far enough with the current work, I (or someone else) will post a new one and we can start over. In addition to normal submissions, I'll occasionally post an expanded work description, consolidating all the new accumulated info from the examples.

Lets start this shit!

Dark Knights was semi-dark webcomic created by Alex Villaplana in March 15, 2000 and ended on June 3, 2011. It was highly notable for remarkable touhou-like theme songs and music.

Schizo Tech: The world is a strange cross between Medieval and Steampunk.

Abandoned Area: The Dead City is a great example of this. The populace was obliterated when The Dark God was first born.

My Hovercraft is Full of Eels: A whole arc is devoted to this, when Johnson and Three-Cogs go to the France-Analogue because Roquefort is hiding out there.

Guile Hero: Zoe, and to a lesser extent, Three-Cogs, are the most prominent ones.

Amusing Injuries: No matter how many times Antonio is injured in some hilarious manner, he never shows any lasting effects.

Fantasy Counterpart Culture: The Dark Knights are pretty much a even more fanatical version of the Teutonic Order, complete with germanic-sounding names. The Grandmaster even has a Teutonic cross engraved into his armor. As long as you ignore the whole worshipping the Second Dark God thing, they're pretty much identical. There's also a France-expy in Season Three, and the denizens of Colcis resemble Australian Aboriginals more than just a bit.

All Crimes are equal: The Dark Knights kill anyone they see commiting a crime. Not that they wouldn't have killed them anyway.

Mad Oracle: After Morbis receives powers of precognition from the deity Gom himself, he goes mad from the apparently hellish future he sees.
Who Are You: Combined with a truly gratuitous Title Drop in the very first episode.
