It's.... A signal! It's weird, and doesn't match any thing in your records besides the beacon you found. It does as a pattern, but who knows what **-*-** repeated over and over means? The signal is faint and hard to track. You found them by basically being in the right place at the right time, as they go off every 13 minutes and 15 seconds.

Four days have past since you started the survey, and the away team has been out of contact since the second day, when they reported they where going deeper into the located site, as all that could be found on the outside was a set of cunningly hidden doors. On your survey however, you located another source of the signal.. or at least it's rough location. You'll have to sent down another team if you want to take a look. Thankfully however, as you come over the horizon, you regain contact with the away team. They've managed to penetrate somewhat into the complex, but the security is most effective. It is, however, definitely some alien ruins, and from a map found, they think there is five stations in all on Mars. If so, you have found at least traces of three of them.

Do you
A1. Continue surveying in search of the other sites?
B1. Go back to earth to report?
C1. Go somewhere else?

Does the survey team
A2. Get picked up?
B2. Moved to another site?
C2. Get told to continue to try to enter the site? You can send them a months worth of supplies, even if it can't be vary comfortable living in space tents and buggies.

B1.

C2.

Other:
Send down a second team to find the third signal, with as many supplies as they can carry and a secondary cache of supplies at their landing zone. Reclaim the landers afterwords, but leave both teams with scout cars.

You return to earth then, after dropping off a load of supplies and a second team to look into the other sites, before departing on your two day trip back to earth. Once back home, while you lack any new information on the alien artifact, they are done with the Space Defense Studies, and have begin inroads onto a working Scoop Device. However, with the Defense studies done, you, as a captain, must choose how your defensive research will be focused. Three options have been offered, and you need to choose which will be your primary, your secondary, and your tertiary choice. Of course, more choices may arrive latter, and real combat may force you to reconsider. Still, for now, what will you choose for your first doctrine choice?

A1 : Point Defense Lasers. With a already working example, point defense weapons could prove to be a powerful option, swatting down enemy projectiles and parasite craft.
B1 : Armor Studies. Oh, armor, how can you go wrong? Still, no matter how strong the armor is, some stuff you don't want to touch you. A good all around choice.
C1 : ECM. If they can't see you, they can't hit you, and then you'll never need all that other stuff.

And of course, you need to choose whether to continue with the Scoop Device research or start something else up.

A2 : The Eye I recon probe. A modified torpedo that swaps out its warhead for a heavy duty sensor installation, at least for the space they had.
B2 : Magnetic Weapons Theory, to allow the developmental of both rail and coil weapons, which could prove useful in both ship and infantry scale
C2 : Laser Weapon Theory, As it never proved needed to iron out these last few bugs with the current ship design, powerful ship to ship lasers are still undesignable. This could be fixed.
D2 : Prefab Space Station, the study of ways to fit a full, if small, space station into your cargo hold
E2 : Colony Study, the planning of interstellar colonies, but experts say they will need more information on other planets and potential colony sites to begin this.
F2 : Scoop Device, the suggested European invention for gaining supplies from gas giants.
G2 : Space Defense Studies, research into the ways space is deadly and how to keep you and your crew from dying.

And then, again, what will your ship do after you have made those choices? Where will it go?

A3 : Mercury
B3 : Venus
C3 : Earth
D3 : Mars
E3 : Asteroid Belt
F3 :  Jupiter
G3 : Saturn
H3 : Uranus
I3 : Neptune
J3 : Pluto
L3 : Write in

A1. ( defense that gives limited offensive power is the best option always)

E2 ( We need to expand)

E3 ( let's gather something sweet, and we can grab away team from mars on the way back)

A1 (for the same reason as Ukrainian Ranger)

D2 (because more space infrastructure is good)

A3 (because Mercury is interesting)

A question: do we already have a means of protecting our crew from radiation?

C1, ECM. I'd like to get long ranged weaponry, and if they can't find us and can't target our long ranged munitions, we win. Furthermore, we might make others outright surrender if we have parasite craft that can trick hostile sensors into thinking we have a large fleet. Also works against weapons that the other options don't protect against.

E2. Expansion is nice.

D3. The away teams might need to be repositioned. If not, we can move on to the asteroid belt.

And so you give orders to start on the studies of, well, Colony Studies. Soon space colonies will be yours! But first, its time to go poke around more places. And so, you swing by Mars to check up on the teams. Sadly, you still haven't gotten into the first ruin. Indeed, you've actually managed to reactivate some security systems making it harder to get in. Still, they say their almost in. Next time you swing by they should be done. The search team, on the other hand, has done very very well. and has greatly reduced the area the other two detected installations could be in. Sadly, not having any lifters to move around in, their dependence on ground travel has prevented them from actually finding the sites. You pick them up and drop them, and their supplies, off in a better spot.

And then.. It's off to the Asteroid Belt! You have a list of things scientests would like you to look into here, or you can just do a survey... a full survey will take 10 days, and you may not have the supplies for that though...

A. Go Visit Asteroid 1
B. Go Scan Asteroid Cluster 2
C. Go survey Asteroid Cluster patterns
D. Survey the belt for X days, please note the days
E. Snag Asteroid 3 and take it on board. It will be somewhat hard, but it should (Barely) be able to fit in your cargo hold and you can sell it off when you get home.

A then B

A few questions:
  • If we were to pick up asteroid 3 and sell it, what would we be able to do with the money?
  • What technical capabilities do we already possess?

Let's spend 6 days here, leaving us time to stop at Mars for a few days on our way back.

E
Spend the rest of our 6 days on D.
