You return to earth then, after dropping off a load of supplies and a second team to look into the other sites, before departing on your two day trip back to earth. Once back home, while you lack any new information on the alien artifact, they are done with the Space Defense Studies, and have begin inroads onto a working Scoop Device. However, with the Defense studies done, you, as a captain, must choose how your defensive research will be focused. Three options have been offered, and you need to choose which will be your primary, your secondary, and your tertiary choice. Of course, more choices may arrive latter, and real combat may force you to reconsider. Still, for now, what will you choose for your first doctrine choice?
A1 : Point Defense Lasers. With a already working example, point defense weapons could prove to be a powerful option, swatting down enemy projectiles and parasite craft.
B1 : Armor Studies. Oh, armor, how can you go wrong? Still, no matter how strong the armor is, some stuff you don't want to touch you. A good all around choice.
C1 : ECM. If they can't see you, they can't hit you, and then you'll never need all that other stuff.
And of course, you need to choose whether to continue with the Scoop Device research or start something else up.
A2 : The Eye I recon probe. A modified torpedo that swaps out its warhead for a heavy duty sensor installation, at least for the space they had.
B2 : Magnetic Weapons Theory, to allow the developmental of both rail and coil weapons, which could prove useful in both ship and infantry scale
C2 : Laser Weapon Theory, As it never proved needed to iron out these last few bugs with the current ship design, powerful ship to ship lasers are still undesignable. This could be fixed.
D2 : Prefab Space Station, the study of ways to fit a full, if small, space station into your cargo hold
E2 : Colony Study, the planning of interstellar colonies, but experts say they will need more information on other planets and potential colony sites to begin this.
F2 :
Scoop Device, the suggested European invention for gaining supplies from gas giants.G2 : Space Defense Studies, research into the ways space is deadly and how to keep you and your crew from dying. And then, again, what will your ship do after you have made those choices? Where will it go?
A3 : Mercury
B3 : Venus
C3 : Earth
D3 : Mars
E3 : Asteroid Belt
F3 : Jupiter
G3 : Saturn
H3 : Uranus
I3 : Neptune
J3 : Pluto
L3 : Write in
