Dicks you can handle by just punching through some drywall and going on with your life. This actually elevates it to the level of "you're dicks, and you're abusing my copyright."

For that you need drywall and a lawyer.

First of all, no one is being punched through drywall, at least not how I read it.

Second of all, it seems to me a lot like a joke, or at least an attempt at a joke.  I mean, if nenjin is serious, he's got to have some damn strong knuckles or at least the balls enough to punch a lot of walls.  I can't speak to his intentions but I would label it 'pseudo-anger,' yes.  You may not. 

I didn't want to call out specific names after the heat had dissipated, but sure, that's it. It's hard not to make the connection that "dicks need to be punched through drywall" but these developers need drywall and a lawyer. Drywall for what, if not being punched through? Come now, be serious.

"Pseudo-anger" implies the anger is not real, but even though no one expects the French Rice developers to literally be punched through a wall, it's hard to say that there is no hostility at all in the words. This is the internet, where real life is rarely impacted beyond a few wasted hours, so pretty much everything here is classified pseudo- this and pseudo- that by your understanding of the word. Yet people still have real emotions.

That the poster thinks French Rice are dicks is clear. You said no one had called them dicks, that nothing in the tone of the thread was spiralling downward until the backlash. I disagree and see the backlash as the reasonable result of a thread that was headed in a direction unflattering to the DF community.

A valid point.  I agree with you and again I will say that I can't speak to what other people's intentions are.

Where I personally stand on this music issue is that it could be a good thing for two indie games to be able to share these types of things (music, ideas, etc.) to each game's benefit.  However, there are certain steps the companies in question have to take in order for it to be a mutually beneficial relationship.

I apologize if my understanding of the prefix pseudo is different than yours in this context.  It is how I could best describe the "bothered-ness" or "dissappointment" that I felt many of these so called "angry" statements were stemmed from.

I'd agree that French Rice botched that part badly. Very badly.

Also, despite a bit of heat here, I think the DF forums have become relatively much less hostile to upcoming DF-like games than they used to be for, say, Goblin Camp.

I think it's because we have new ways to channel our rage. Like any escaped lunatic who comes here to advertise their game, who we scare away with our unbridled raeg.

Man, those poor lunatics, just trying to honestly sell their game. Still not as bad as what Vector did to that guy who was making those jokes about women, kitchens and sammiches. I don't think he will ever walk again.

Point and joke I was making is, were this not for the legal issues, it's something I think most people could ignore by saying "they're being dicks" and doing some stress relief (drywall being my favorite. If you don't punch a stud your hand goes right through.)

But because this is a legal issue in my mind...first you get a lawyer, then go do some stress relief.

Honestly, I think people barely even read what they quoted me on. If I were advocating something like that, I wouldn't be mincing words. They don't owe me any kind of explanation...but I do hope they give Toady one that doesn't make them look like dicks.
