Do player laid mines detonate when the player moves over them?
Yes... why wouldn't they? You have several seconds before they arm to move away from them.

If you approach any mine very slowly you can disarm it.

Just wanna say, I love all the little touches in this game. Like this, which Aqizzar, after I described it, noted to be the biggest nerd in joke ever.

The FFXXVII poster, or am I missing something?

Okay, that mostly clears it up.  I probably missed an email somewhere explaining that.  :)

Yes... why wouldn't they? You have several seconds before they arm to move away from them.

If you approach any mine very slowly you can disarm it.

That explains why they detonated when I tried to disarm them using Deus Ex 1 tactics: Run straight at them and attempt to press the use button to disarm them before they can explode. Result: Explosion in my face since there is apparently no delay between detection and detonation. Even with no explosives skill in Deus Ex 1 I could run up to a LAM planted as a mine and disarm it (on Realistic difficulty) without any trouble, so I was a bit confused when doing the same thing with older mine tech resulted in instant death here.

(I ended up concluding that they were un-retrievable and just shooting them all with my pistol)

That's mostly what I do. I didn't find mines particularly useful when salvaged. Then again, I'm currently just blowing everyone away with heavy guns.

LAMs (the combo grenade/mine) were more useful in Deus Ex 1, when you could stack 10 (IIRC) of each LAM in a single inventory slot and use them for a variety of purposes. I blew Anna Navarre to smithereens with a single LAM, for instance, by booby trapping the door to Lebedev's cabin after locking it behind me (She forgot to knock before barging in).

The one time I used a mine to good effect was to plant a gas grenade mine in a point where I knew NPC's would spawn in as soon as a trigger event happened, which knocked them all out instantly. Cheaty but it helped me get by that area.

I didn't know this, but Aqizzar is net savvy enough to have realized the monitor arch has been an internet meme since 1998.

My first thought when I saw it was "What's he trying to build a stargate out of monitors for?"

Not to mention the sheer rarity of CRT monitors in 2027 must have made collecting all of those an expensive proposition unless someone had planned ahead and stockpiled them several decades in advance.

I just completed the game last night and after thinking about it for while I'm starting to lean more and more towards the notion that not only does this game try overly hard to be a sequel (well prequel) to Deus Ex, it actually tries to BE Deus Ex.
Its not really so much a sequel as its an impersonation and its rather creepy actually.

Also, silly endgame is silly, total and major spoiler following
