Your favorite DS and Advance games
« on: June 02, 2011, 10:24:04 pm »

I recently hung up the spurs on my old Gameboy Color, and decided to buy a DS Lite. So now, well after the fact, I've got access to the libraries of two generations of handhelds. In the interests of inflating my personal library, I thought I'd pose this question- what were/are your favorite Nintendo DS and Gameboy Advance games?

Definitely get the Mario and Luigi games. Superstar Saga for the advance, and Partners in Time for DS. They're basically a mix of the Super Mario RPGs and Earthbound.

For the DS in particular, try Professor Layton, and maybe Metroid Prime: Hunters.

I wasn't a fan of Partners in Time.  Too many crying babies :V
Bowser's Inside Story, the third in the series, was significantly better imo.

Congratulations sir, you now have an incredible fount of great RPGs at your disposal.

The World Ends With You. It's an action-RPG about a game-within-a-game in modern day Tokyo... It's hard to describe without it sounding stupid, but it just completely nails it on everything. Possibly my favourite RPG in the last 10 years.

Also Chrono Trigger and Front Mission are two of my favourite games ever*, but those are both remakes so they don't count. New Super Mario Bros and the Zelda games are pretty great too.

*EDIT: Oh, let's not the forget the Final Fantasy remakes. Also great.

My favourite DS game? Resident Evil 1!

I love that game.

Super Robot Taisen Original Generation 1 and 2. Both are great games, the animation is WAY improved in 2, but 1 is still a great play. It's basically Fire Emblem meets giant robots, minus the permanent death.

Speaking of Fire Emblem, those are awesome games as well.

Rocket Slime. If you have ever had any remote liking of quality games, you'll recognized how well it's made.

Some of my favorites:

Fire Emblem games
Final Fantasy Tactics games
Advance Wars games
Devil Survivor is also excellent, if a bit difficult and slightly grindy.

All four (Phoenix Wright/Apollo Justice): Ace Attorney games. They're completely unique love it/hate it games that you should try. Buy the first one and see if you like it.

Another game I'd like to mention is Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 days. It's Kingdom Hearts for the DS; smaller than the console equivalents, has blockier graphics, but it's still incredibly good.

Okamiden, for the DS. An awesome game based in Japanese mythology, and drawn like it's from Japanese mythology. A weird experience, but very fun.

Second the Zelda and Pokemon recs. I've been really enjoying Spirit Tracks. Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald (GBA) is probably the best. Don't get Black/White unless you really want to sympathize with terrorists or can treat the whole plot like a satire. I honestly want to join the 'bad' guys and turn them into a legitimate political party.
