Pallet Nuvema Town- the start of something big!As I leave the house, my mother throws something at me.
Don't forget your crosstransceiver!
My what now?
It's a phone, dear.
Then why didn't you just say phone?
Because it's not a phone, its a crosstransceiver, silly!
But you just said... actually, nevermind. I've got places to be. See you later!
With that, I set about exploring my ancestral home. Apparently the only people who live here are my family, Cheren's family, and Bianca's family. There also seems to be a couple of homeless peasants who probably live in the woods, praying they live to see each dawn. Maybe Professor Juniper commutes, I don't know. The first house I stumble into belongs to Cheren's family. Y'know how in the first generation of Pokemon Gary's parents weren't around? That is because normal parents are BORING AS HELL. I spend some more time watching TV before heading off to Bianca's house.
Bianca is in the middle of a tiff with her overprotective father, who for some inexplicable reason doesn't want his twelve year old daughter to wander the world fighting crime and engaging in death sports. The part of Bianca's father will be played by
Bryan Mills, aka Liam Neeson.
No daughter of mine is traveling the world by herself!
I won't be alone, that's why you got me a license to train Pokemon! With them by my side, what's the worst that could happen?
You could watch them be brutally murdered one after the other until you are helpless, and then get sold into slavery by godless Kantoese sex traffickers! I was in the war, I know what it's like out there!
I can't believe we're having this conversation, I need to get some air. I'll be thanking Professor Juniper at the lab if you need me.
As she passed me in the doorway, she asked me to keep quiet about this argument, and I agreed. As my father always says, "Never get involved in a domestic dispute. Unless we're talking about domestic policy, which is kindof our job." Bianca's house is rather boring as well, and since it would be somewhat awkward to watch TV with her angry, violent father I decide to go advance the plot.
Professor Juniper clearly has a bigger budget than Oak did in Gen I. Professor Oak's lab, for all the whippersnappers out there, had some bookcases, a computer, and a random intern. From these humble furnishings, Oak basically invented the entire field of Pokemon Research. Juniper's lab, while equally understaffed, is more like Dr. Kleiner's lab with less dystopia.
i.e, it is chock full of pointless SCIENCE! I see you've already been battling! That's good, since you'll need to build strong bonds with your Pokemon if you are to complete the task I'm about to assign.
You're giving each of us a Pokedex?
I'm giving you all P- wait, how did you figure that out, Cheren?
It's not that hard to figure out, honestly. You'd have to be dumb as a post not to see this coming.
See what coming?
Maybe I should explain from the beginning. A Pokedex is a highly advanced encyclopedia that anyone can edit- it automatically records information about Pokemon you encounter or catch and uploads it to a world-wide database. You can view the information that you yourself have recorded, or access the knowledge of the world's trainers. Now that the Pokemon Protection Act has been passed, it is imperative that every trainer be equipped with the ability to record all the data about every Pokemon they see on their travels.
A world wide database? Could this technology be used to communicate across vast distances, perhaps forming some kind of network that interconnects every nation?
No, that would be stupid. That's why we have crosstransceivers.
That's why we have what now?
Oh, I almost forgot. Now that you've gotten to know your partners a little better, this would be a good time to give them a nickname!
Hmm...
I think I'll name Oshawott
Marvin. That's an excellent name! Now, everyone get your supplies together- I'll meet you in Accumula town to show you the basics of traveling abroad, and then its time for your adventure to start!
Bianca and Cheren immediately leave- I stick around to poke my nose into all the fiddly bits in the lab. After exhausting the (surprisingly sparse) opportunities for amusement to be found in a highly advanced laboratory, I decide to look up Oshawott in my Pokedex.
Wait, that thing on its chest comes off!?! Huh. Apparently crippling depression isn't a trait of the species- I must be lucky.
Heading outside, my mother is talking to Cheren and Bianca.
Oh there you are, honey! I was just about to give you all a gift for your journey! Town Maps! There's one for you, and Cheren, and of course Bianca!
Um, Mom...
*kick*
Gah! Er, thanks Mom...
You kids hurry off now! I know Professor Juniper is waiting, so don't worry about telling your parents- I'll explain everything.
MOM, I don-
*much higher kick* ...thanks mom, gotta go.Cheren and Bianca head off towards Route One. Since I have now gone almost ten minutes without getting into a Pokebattle, I follow them towards ADVENTURE.
NEXT TIME: Villainy Strikes!
Comments and criticism welcome as always.
