I already have a couple diamond blocks, so I'll just make another pick and save the enchanted one for diamond mining.

Shame it doesn't work on iron and gold though, more gold means more arrows and iron is useful overall.

It's a given that I'll probably die in some stupid manner before the pick wear out anyway.

It is a bit of a shame but if you could for instance get double gold then all you would need to do is keep placing then mining and you basically get as much gold as you want (IE breaking the system).

So make it so it only works its magic on ore? It's not rocket science.
I mean, if Silk Touch AND Fortune worked together then there'd be abuse, but since they're opposing enchantments it's impossible.

Try using direct connect? It's working fine on my end.

The drop you get from gold is the block. You can just place it again no silk touch required.

Ore is not an item type, it is just the name for the block you get and can be placed again. The enchant only works on things that drop a non-set number (IE not clay) of non-placeable items.

Gold blocks drop a gold block when broken :/ Where did you get the idea that mining a gold block returns ore?

Unless the wiki is wrong, Gold blocks drop gold blocks when  broken; and as you've said that Fortune only works on non-placeable items, it obviously won't work with gold blocks.

I see no possibility of abuse here.

In totally non-abuse related news, this pick turned 6 diamond blocks into 15 diamonds. I'm never letting go of this thing.

Well yeah, I mean you could get the ore using silk touch, but you'd have to switch to a different pick to mine it with fortune. Fortune and Silk Touch are conflicting enchantments and won't work together even when hacked in. So no possibility of abuse there.

You get the ore directly from mining it with any regular pick, though.

Which is what I was trying to say. If you could get extra ore from mining gold you could just place the ore again and mine it again getting even more. Thus breaking the system. You don't need silk touch. What is dropped by gold is called gold ore and it is a block you can place.
