I've actually been pacing my purchases to where I can afford to buy in bulk here and there (Holiday deals are a real saver here; even better than opening deals). That also included my revival package for my recent account (Valve Complete Pack as the opener).

I also updated my OP once more and did a ratio/percentage savings run through (total value/total via sales (Reciprocal makes the percent. I round it to 5 digits (2 whole numbers, 3 decimal))). I must say, I'm impressed with my value hunting skills. I think less than 10 of my games have been gifted to me even. Need help on what's a good deal value-wise, I can provide help.

Dear Gog, where do you people get that kind of money?
On the other hand, if I had a steady job that's what I'd spend my money on too...

You own 230 games worth: $2,321.06 USD
If you bought all these games on sale it would have cost: $1,077.01 USD
You spend an average of $10.09 USD ($4.68 USD) per game.

Actually holistically, I've spent under $1000 USD for those games + DLC.  The gifts I purchased in addition may have pushed it over a grand, but the last time I checked (a month or two ago) I had only spent about $800 on steam (and I'm pretty sure I've spent < $200 since then).

My profile is hidden, so I made it public just to see what it was worth.

ETA: The real trick is to buy entire publisher catalogs when they're on sale.

A++

On the other hand I was coming out of MSPAetic shock after spending way too much time on their forums. The memes just took over. I lost control. I became... MEMEMAN.

This is what I was saying.

I just managed to have a shot at getting a good steady job so if that works out I may end up playing more than just DF and Terraria through the steam interface :P

Steady job + good pacing and timing of sales (holiday sales (especially Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Christmas) and certain midweek madnesses (and with the new daily deals in action)) and a bit of risk calculation, and you can be a frugal as me when it comes to purchases.

I usually calculate risk according to frequency of sales, look through it's news histories (if any) to see if it has gone lower than current sale amount, check out how many other games or DLCs are included in the package, and estimate average individual price based on overall price. Base (non-sale, package and individually even) and sale (ditto), and Steam's calculations which can deceive you how they structure it sometimes (your math vs. their math). Gotta land that sale after all. The Thanksgiving deal was how I managed to get Recettear for 1 buck (a great example of how to get the lowest possible price). It was part of a $5 package deal. The risk was worth it, since it seemed likely such a deal would never come up again in a loooong time. Even it's news article remarked about that deal the day after (watch out for late news; look to the past to predict the future, or to decide upon the present).

Actually, you gotta add awareness into the mix, and keep a pretty frequent eye on Steam. It also helps to fill up that wishlist; not only for certain sweepstakes, but also for the heads-up Steam gives about possible sales for what you want; whether the sale is front-page listed or not.

A personal note I like to feel proud about is that I already got my mass-purchasing taken care of way before moving on out to freelancing (with at least also having a decent buffer zone financially); my old job had a steady-ish income, but it was wearing down on my psychology in a not-good way. Freelancing at least provides me more freedom (with at least a client that will pay off soon enough, just gotta hold up until the payoff comes in), though finding good paying jobs will be a bit of a challenge. At least I know I am capable. I'm proud that I tested the waters before diving in. The pool I made for myself in the long run runs deep. If there's anything I learned from the past (when I lost my last Steam account), it is to mind your surroundings, and have tons of foresight.

EDIT:
Apparently, I botched the quoting a bit. Fixed it.

A few people seem to have it, so I'ma ask about Red Faction Guerrilla. Can you ever find a multiplayer game? Because I own it for the PS3 and the game has more than repayed the 60 dollars I bought it for, but the multiplayer is basically dead. When I can find a game, it's a blast, but I seem to be 1 out of the 3 people who try. If the multiplayer for the computer is any more active, I might buy it again, because it's a damn good game.

Most likely, the multiplayer for PC games is usually much more active than consoles namely because they don't suck gigantic cock and you actually have control over the server.

Ahh, the steam calculator won't add up any of my games =/ So I've apparently spent 0 dollars on 40 games.

About $300 on 28 games. Didn't even have to pay a penny for most of them.

Holy crap, I didn't realize I've actually bought that many games...

You own 123 games worth: $1,834.09 USD
If you bought all these games on sale it would have cost: $762.60 USD
You spend an average of $14.91 USD ($6.20 USD) per game.

Although I calculated all my steam purchases, and it added up to about ~950. Not bad, most of my games I bought on sale. It's amazing how many games you can accrue when you start having a somewhat steady income... I made one purchase in 2007, three in 2008, seven in 2009, and thirty in 2010, and twenty one so far in 2011. I imagine you can guess the year I got my first job :) Although, I wonder if some of this money could have had a better use... Not all of those games were all that good. But those steam sales are so enticing sometimes...

Without using a silly calculator (Or access to my Steam library), I can tell you that I have about 18 games, and I have spent around £36. I got the Half Life 1 bundle (~11 games) as a gift, the Orange Box for £15, Smashball for free (Hooray for mods!) Terraria for £6 and Worms Reloaded at ~£15. I got a free hat for the latter purchase, which everyone seems to want.

In other news, if someone has a spare copy of Portal 2, I'm [DERPinator]ExKirby over there.
