I'm thinking of getting it, and I want to know... Is it worth the fifty dollars to get it?

My friend enjoyed the heck out of that game, but he likes things like CoD and Halo, so I don't trust his opinions on video games.

I played Fallout 3 and LOVED IT. Would I enjoy New Vegas?

New Vegas is just Fallout 3 Extended. That doesn't mean it's not fun, and Hardcore mode is a nice new twist that I definitely recommend trying. If you loved Fallout 3, chances are you'll definitely enjoy New Vegas, at least to some extent. There are definitely excellent moments, the end of the game is even better than Fallout 3's ending, and now with 1 or 2 DLC's and several patches for all the nasty bugs, it's a great time to get it.

TL;DR: Get it.

I enjoyed it, although I didn't play it quite as much as Fallout 3.  I'm not sure if that is because it wasn't as much fun or I had already played far to much Fallout 3 though.

Yes, get him. If you liked Fallout 1 and 2 and hated Fallout 3 (as I did), Fallout: New Vegas will be the suitable remedy.

New Vegas is really the best of both worlds, many lovers of bethesda fallout and black isle fallout alike think new vegas is a great improvement.

New Vegas is FO3 with better writing, better story structure and slightly better combat balance. And it's also the closest thing to Black Isle's Fallout 3 (Van Buren), since they reused some of the things from the VB design documents.

You might not like it if you got tired of FO3's combat system, though. I sorta did (pretty quickly at that), and it didn't really change the balance enough for me. Don't think I'd manage to replay it without some heavy modding to the combat.

I never got around to beating Fallout 3, as the storyline didn't keep me interested enough and the exploration was pretty much like Oblivion without trees. You see one ruined bunker, you've seen them all. Fallout New Vegas kept me interested long enough to not only beat it, but to start up a new character to look for all those quests I missed. In my opinion, New Vegas had much better quests all around, as most of them could be finished in an open-ended way.

Unfortunately, there's no good mods for New Vegas, unless you like smooth skinned busty broads in lingerie filling your gritty, filth-covered, post-apocalyptic world.

FO:NV is good, but I would wait for the summer Steam sale to see if it goes on sale. I enjoy it, but I only paid $30 for it and glad I didn't spend a penny more. Fun, but not fantastic.

Blasphemy. I have a fairly extensive mod list that focuses on gameplay, balance, adding new weapons/armor/etc. There are lots of good ones out there.

New Vegas definitely had a different feel to it. The writing was better, the ending actually was worth not being able to continue (even with DLC; preserving the "true" end of the story was a good way to do it, imho), and it just felt more Fallout-ish. Hard to explain if you haven't played the originals.

Perhaps I'm just spoiled by all the great gameplay changing mods that came out for Oblivion and expected the same for the Fallout games? Fallout 3 had a few interesting mods, and I particularly enjoyed the weapon modification and survival mods, but New Vegas pretty much incorporated those into it's main game.

I keep checking into the New Vegas Nexus from time to time, looking through the top mods to see if there's anything that might bring me back into the game for another play-through, but I really haven't seen anything beyond new weapons and clothing that catches my fancy. Do you have any mods you would recommend that might not have made the top 50 list?

If it's the continuous 50 dollar price tag that turns you away, I'd recommend heading to your local video game store if they even have a PC section, as I've seen New Vegas up for $20 probably since nobody expects to find anything worthwhile.
