Never underestimate molotov cocktails, either. I threw one at the engine of a StuG that refused to move and the crew bailed, they were on fire too. Then the tank exploded. It was funny.

This game is a Gem among games, in my opinion. I just love it.

I thought there was already a thread for this game, though?

I'm not so fond of those, you can't hose down an entire column with them easily and their ammo supply is fairly limited.

Love this game, even though I'm awful at it and micromanagement of my troops always ends with a lot of dead troops and extreme frustration on my part.

In regards to the second picture in the OP, what the hell is that soldier tossing a grenade at?

yeah I just got it for myself for $7 and change. Does indeed install on steam. I bought it for someone(forget who) a while ago, but never got around to it for myself until now.

Assault Squad is... Not my type. I like taking it nice and steady, do that on AS and you get flooded with armored cars and riflemen.

@Jackrabbit, soldiers can actually throw grenades pretty far. The soldier he is throwing it at could've moved too.

@Asehujiko, well of course they aren't great at taking out columns. They aren't the greatest against infantry, either. They are good at destroying disabled tanks, preferably ones that can't turn their turret or shoot.

Is it possible in the Assault Squad to play multiplayer maps against AI?

Yeah, but at that range he'd just barely hit the first corpse and that other guy couldn't have covered that distance, turned around and started firing again in the time it took for him to start to throw the grenade. I've a sneaking suspicion that the shot was set up. It's really funny, though.

Actually, now that I look at it closer, there is an enemy in one of the bushes to the right. The grenading soldier and a rifleman in the middle are facing him.

You know how sometimes guys get the lead in Assault Squad's combat game mode, scatter infantry in bushes everywhere, and then go AFK?

I love rudely awakening them.

On a related note, I disabled a T-34/85 with a mere PaK 41 by tracking it, moving a sniper up, and having everyone run away. By the time he had the tank fixed he had one minute to go, fifty points to score and a map to drive across. Victory for Germany!

I've also learned if you take a 300 kg rocket mortar round and a guy with AP mines, you can drop the rocket inside a building, place the AP mine on top of it, and have a very nice squad-killing booby trap.

I mostly play AS but here are some tips:

Grenades, Grenades, Grenades. Throw them around as much as you can and don't forget to loot grenades from dead bodies. Efficient use of grenades makes every unit, even riflemen, close combat super soldiers.

Cover your tanks. This isn't the regular real time strategy game where you buy the best tank and own everything around you. Tanks are terrible at spotting troops and they have a lot of blind spots (most tanks can hardly see what's going on behind and next to them). And if they don't have a machine gun on top (or the crew to mount it) they can't turn quick enough to kill troops approaching from the sides or behind. As a German manual once said: "Ihr Schlachtruf muss sein: „Schützt die Infanterie!“ und der Schlachtruf der Infanterie ist „Schützt die Panzer!“". Freely translated: your slogan must be: "protect the infantry" and the slogan of the infantry must be: "protect the tanks".

Tanks actually suck bigtime if they don't have lighter escorts/infantry moving with them. A lot of light German vehicles are capable of taking down an Allied medium tank, too.

AT guns are a nightmare for tanks, they are small, usually have longer range and insanely fatal if you get caught on the side or rear.

Good strategies for taking out tanks:
1)Landmines, they require you owning an area for a short amount of time but they are a real terror when the enemy reaches them. Just keep sweepers and sappers away. They probably won't take out anything bigger than a light tank, but they will easily blow the tracks off any medium or heavy tank, making them easy pickings for other tanks/infantry.

2)If you can get close, molotovs. They can torch the engine and make the crew bail, it usually explodes, too.

3)AT grenades are obviously a good choice. The problem is, most AS units don't come with any except the elite/special units.

Molotovs, even more than AT grenades, terrify me in MoW. One good solid hit and your tank is walking corpse. Functioning, yes, but only for another minute or so.
