Clown Lords?
« on: May 31, 2011, 07:37:39 pm »

I was recently looking for quests in a fort in adventure mode when i came across a fort completely empty except for a lord with the & symbol for their character. Has the & symbol been put to lords as well as clowns now or is it just a clown ruling over an empty castle offering me jobs?

Humans can be fooled by clowns. The humans will think of them as their god's avatar, and elect them leader. That's probably what you're seeing.

Oh that makes sense, I think i recall seeing things like that in the legends of an old worldgen but I didn't look into it back then, since I thought a mod may have added a friendly clown race.

Wish I still had that save where a clown got imprisoned by humans and was elected as law giver of an empty civ which had imprisoned him. Good times.

When I first read the title, I thought of literal clown lords. Those would be more interesting.

Urist McPhail failed a mandate.

He is sentanced to a cream pie-ing and a 20 days of lion taming.

Clown is a euphemism.

It's people thinking it's good to confuse newbies with unused terms in DF. They are talking of DEMONS.

Yeah, sometimes a tiny portion of the whole Underworld population can get out. As they are intelligent and evil, they can fool humans into taking them as leaders. They also can take gobbo civs by more direct means.

Oh, I think euphemism is a misleading term then. Clown maybe is a "purposeful misnomer"? Semantics...  So calling them clowns just makes people confused and then they'll research what clowns are on the forums then find out what they are (and that they already knew what "&"'s were.)

Yeah, lords are just purple and blinky "U"'s although they are really just peasants in most cases, haha.
