Coinage
« on: May 31, 2011, 05:54:22 am »

I'm playing around with the value of metals, but i'm not certain how this will affect the value of coins, if for example I have changed the value of copper from 2 to 15, will the coins of copper be made at a higher amount when minting, if not will enough coins be meltable to a bar of copper, or will the minting of copper coins be an industry made at a loss when having a copper coin at 1?

I would not like to test this cause the information gained of such a test would only be of periferal worth for me and I'd need a dwarven economy fort for that which isn't something I want to play at all, however, I rather wouldn't destroy the economies of the world by making the currencies at a loss.

/Zorbeltuss who will appreciate any and all answers

Just out of curiosity, why change the value of metals?

What are you trying to accomplish?

If you explain what you are trying to do, others might offer up different ways to do it.

If you just want to arbitrarily change the value of metals, then I'm confused!

How did I miss the existence of this thread?
(Don't attempt to answer that.  Down that path lies ... well I was going to say madness but you all run towards madness as if it was made from chocolate and puppies.  Just forget I said anything.)

From what I recall, currently coins aren't particularly worth anything beyond the value of the material put into them.

I am trying to accomplish more decently priced metals, one part of gold for ecample isn't reasonable to buy with fifteen times the weight in lead, more like sixhundred times, so yeah, I want to mod prices firstly then move on to rarity and so on...

The value of each type of coin is determined in the applicable entity entry. It has nothing to do with the value of the metal.

Yes, but does it determine the amount of coins made? Will coins with the value or with the amount produced be able to be molten to one bar?
