The things I like the most about kobolds are:

10: They have a lot of courage

9: They're very tasty

8: Their general frailness means they are more fun to throw around

7: Their guts make great weapons

6: They're rare, so killing a cave full of them would be a great achievement

5: Their fur makes a nice coat

4: It's fun to occasionly see a large splat come from the weapon traps and know a kobold has come near

3: Their bones make great training bolts

2: They're easy kill targets, so you can prolong their death

And... My favourite thing about kobolds is...

1: They're so fun to torture!

I'm going to start capturing kobolds, runesmithing them into my civ, and keeping a "natural kobald environment" in my fort.  Namely, some small wooden huts in a cave, or just some doors in a cave system, and toss various loincloths and robes down, as well as plenty of food.  Maybe some little stone chairs to sit on as a communal dining room, but allow them to primarily run around barking and breeding.

I'm an honorary member of the KFKA(Kindness For Kobolds Association).
I called off my miner as he was about to strike the killing blow on my fort's first kobold thief, leaving it to (somehow) crawl away with merely a severed spinal cord. Upper spine.
