Weapon damage types

Is it still possible to make ranged weapons do heat and cold damage?

Not exactly.

You can give them ammunition made out of metal with high or low FIXED_TEMP I believe. I think there are some mods already with heat and cold damage dealing ammo (the wizard tower mod?)

Won't that hurt the user though? I'm trying to make a cryo gun and thermite launcher....

You could maybe do it if you made your race immune to hot/cold temperatures? But then they wouldn't suffer the additional effects of the ammo if you shot them with it.

I think I may have found a way to make the ammo I need for the thermite weapon:

Make a special metal with the right ignition point
Make a custom reaction that requires said metal to produce the ammo.

Bam! buring ammo

Make a metal with a fixed temperature and require all haulers, smiths, and marksmen to wear gauntlets made of that. Should work in theory.
Oh, and make a type of leather like that too to make quivers out of. You can also use a reaction to make a quiver out of the magic metal with a fixed temperature.

Actually that won't be necessary. The enemy this is intended to for has a very high body temp. Plus no dwarves in this mod.

I see. Carry on then!
However, I'm not sure if you can do cold damage.

Make the metal cold enough to freeze their body parts.

The difference between a burning weapon and a freezing weapon is that you can make a material burn at a body temperature higher than the body temp of a creature that isn't a dwarf, so you can easily handle it. Such isn't the case for freezing.

But then you'd need the gauntlets I mentioned.
