Aw come on! This thread deserves atention!!!
Yeah, especially when you misspell "attention" and put it in all caps and compare it with all the other good ideas in all the other threads on this board.  When you put all that in perspective, yeah this thread deserves attention.  By the same token, my thinly veiled criticism of this thread title DESERVES ATENTION!

On the other hand, yes, it's a good idea.  NPCs should be a little more talkative.

A good idea that, if you look at the dev. notes, is probably going to be implemented eventually anyways even if a thread is made here for it or not.
So, in fact, this thread deserves less atention than a thread about necessitating bathrooms in fortress mode.

Latvian sounds like it'd be a cool language.

I'm American though, so I can speak my own language, and then know select phrases from two more. Le sigh.

Meh. Spelling, grammar, they're both the same thing, in the end.

Not really, but the difference is all in semantics, so some people will care (like myself), and others won't.

Trying my damndest not to be a grammar nazi over here.

Yeah, I guess my pc's spellchecking(this word is colored red when I type but the only alternative is spelunking) was turned of. Yes, "Tu maita tāds" means "you despicable old carcas" in Latvian. Its a regular sware phrase, dont ask why.

it would be good if there was a new speaking mechanic that worked like sight. You could talk within a certain area, and everyone would respond to you. You could walk into a fort and yell, join me, then receive max companions of the people around you, or if you didn't want three wrestlers, you could point out specific people. This might be added as a new button, or as another option of talking, like wrestling when attacking.

This would allow you to taunt enemies and freaks and would set the stage for better relationship mechanics based on distance, so that if you yell at someone to follow you as a nobody, they won't obey, whereas if you walk up to someone and ask them politely, they mey join you.

have you ever tried to speak portuguese, not the eropean one (that kind sucks),one example : É difícil como Letão pois temos mais tipos de conjugaçao do que o inglês e tambem acentos.
in english: It's as hard as latvian because we have more conjugation types and also accents.
how do we use the spellcheck on this forum?

Your success at lying would also be determined by your linguistic ability attribute.

IIRC there is already a "Liar" skill.
