Talking to any npc. Even bad ones.
« on: May 30, 2011, 06:27:35 am »

The basic idea is that you should have the ability to talk to ANY npc. Nomater if you are a criminal or an enemy to the npc. You would have other options to say though. Here are a few thoughts(you dont have to think of tham as having to be implemented)

If you talk to an enemy:
"I mean no harm!"
"I surrender"
"[Brag]"
"Who is your leader?"
"Surrender or face the consiquences!"
"what can I do to make peace with you?"

If you are a criminal:
"[plead for forgivness]"
"[ask how you could make up for your crimes]"
"[Justify yourself by your deeds]"
"No such deeds were done!"
"I did it to help others!"

if you are talking to a night creature:
"Prepare to die! i am..."
"Hah! You are no mach for me!"
"I wish to become your ally."
"I am here not to fight but to help your cause..."
"Oh noooo!!!"

thourghts?

I like this. Much of this will no doubt become possible later with all the surrendering stuff, but still, when the night creature screams at me all their kills, I want to list of the hundreds of night creatures I've already killed back to them... XD

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...
Link for full quote. 'tis mighty funny.

Night Creature: "I am Grubag the Terror of Rending! I have slain Puggles Slowfist who's name I struggle to remember!"

Adventurer: "I am Bagak Killsrends! I have slain... list goes on for several hours"

Night Creature quietly sneaks away after the first 20 names...

Your success at lying would also be determined by your linguistic ability attribute. This would give Adventurer mode a play style beyond "run in head on and chop stuff up"

What if, if we successfully became allies with the night creature, and it was the opposite gender, it could convert us, and we could have little night-families?

That would be badass and needs to be added to the game, pronto.

And that would be Adventuring how?  :P

I'm just playing. Possibilities for extra playstyles are more than welcome as far as I'm concerned.

I can imagine a bad liar trying to boast:

"I Urist McLiar, slayer of... erm... Fred. Yeah, Fred Hollowbones, and erm, ahhh."

It would add use for those non-combat skills.

Yeah, especially when you misspell "attention" and put it in all caps and compare it with all the other good ideas in all the other threads on this board.  When you put all that in perspective, yeah this thread deserves attention.  By the same token, my thinly veiled criticism of this thread title DESERVES ATENTION!

On the other hand, yes, it's a good idea.  NPCs should be a little more talkative.
