Aye, but if I recall correctly, the obsidian chips had to be a particular prismatic shape, that's kinda a pain in the ass to make, particularly in emergencies.

Also, I wish we could make an obsidian scythe or some such shit. Would be cool.

To be fair, Aztecs probably had craftsmen who's only job was to carve obsidian chips.  In the olden days, you could really have someone sitting there doing perfect quality stone flakes for a living.

Yeah, but the problem of shoving the chips in the handle is still there, and I really want that damn obsidian scythe. I'm imagining a slade-clad dwarf from under HFS wielding one and killing whatever he sees. And when necromancy, etc. is added....

There's a couple people who do that for a living now, actually. Obsidian is so ridiculously sharp that a few people make a living knapping blades for surgical scalpels. They leave slightly cleaner cuts and last longer than steel. One thing I read by one such knapper is that the cuts he accidentally gives himself are so clean than they barely hurt and never leave scars.

Aye, I'd heard of obsidian being used for scalpels. Cheaper, easier to sanitize, and far sharper, from what I hear.

That's right. Archeologists and anthropologists often find workshops where the floors are covered in obsidian flakes or the cores left after the craftsman carved off all the useful obsidian from a large starting rock. Obsidian blades were in high demand even for civilian use; there would have been a lot of people making obsidian blades for the military.

Yeah, I doubt scalpels have enough weight behind them to actually do that. More likely the blade would penetrate a lil bit, then shatter, and tiny shards of obsidian would go into the bloodstream. You're welcome.

Seems like my theory was proven right: Surgery can be enhanced by magma!
