The old trick of knocking them out with a nearby-cave in that shoves them onto a line of cage traps should still work.
Only it never worked.

For a solution, you can either cave-in it or encase it.

O build a bridge atop a hole with no ramps, and retract the bridge when bug is there. This trick trapped some monsters in Lets Play: Syrupleaf.

Corona688 was probably thinking of that trick being used on tentacle demons and frog demons back in 0.28.181.40d, and it did work on them - it did not, however, work on spirits of fire because they happened to have the combination of TRAPAVOID + NOSTUN, and that combination is also present on every single titan, forgotten beast, and demon in version 0.31.xx.

That was back in 40d, and it never worked against megabeasts since large creatures prevent bridges from operating (and will destroy a bridge that attempts to atomsmash them) - not surprisingly, all titans + forgotten beasts + demons are more than large enough to trigger the same behavior in 0.31.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

It's never been EASY, but I have seen movies of a clown caging event that used cave-ins to knock them in.  It took fantastic timing and a PLAIN of cage traps but they caught some.

Zwei, how's the war against the cockroach going?

I think this is less a problem and more an expression of dwarven priorities.

Find a way to keep it from moving, then use it as a training dummy. Especially useful for marksdwarves and unarmed dwarves.

Bonus points: find a way to make the HFS attack it.

By all means, that thing is largely immune to both fire and physical attacks - clowns should be unable to do a damn thing to it!

I think that we're approaching this from the wrong perspective.

You need to trap it in a labyrinth and funnel sieges and elves into it. It's basically a giant eldritch war-construct, immune to all conventional weapons. Use it to kill EVERYTHING. As mentioned, it could probably take on the HFS without sustaining much further damage.

And if they can, you have a bigger problem on your hands...  ;)

Even if they were somehow able to defeat it, they would likely still have taken heavy losses. Thus it's still an advisable strategy. Having a backup, like a collapsable layer above the staging ground or magma and water spigots for encasing (or both). You'll likely need to be clever to funnel both clowns and seiges through this.
