Then why are you touching it. You touch it= you claim it.

Also, this is probably dwarf porn.

Ladies and gentledwarfs, I believe we have the first dwarven porn.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Artifact weapons are, for all intents and purposes, considered regular weapons.  Do not assume "this is an artifact, it is more powerful".  It's just more expensive, is all.  The combat bonuses are so slight as to be null compared to material differences.

As I said, use it as a ceremonial weapon or room decoration.  For your real blood and grit warfare, go with steel.

I think I'll go with the ceremonial idea. It's still a fairly young fort, but I'll give it a try with my major. I ran out of prisoners "testing" the arena, but will post results when I get more.

My military just repelled a siege and my Swordwarf with Kisatakmesh Idrath Osresh the gold shortsword racked up 3 troll and 6 goblin kills, not counting assorted limb separation and the like. The rest of the crew got 10 gobs and 1 troll altogether.

Just sayin'!  ;)

(use the axe, let it taste blood! You know it wants it, it neeeeds it!)  :P

There are as many ways to play the game as there are socks on a battlefield.

The alpha version weapons are still indestructible, but in reality, gold is completely worthless as weapon material. It's so soft it can be forged cold, with only a hammer. A few hefty hits with a golden axe on something slightly harder than grass (like an oaken shield for example) and you had a bent and dented golden piece of modern art.

I tested it out in the area. Apparently, a gold axe is amazing against unarmored targets, likely because the mass means that it has a lot of force behind the blow. An unskilled dwarf will almost always land a nasty wound on an unarmored target if the dwarf hits.

Artifact bonus. Test it in the field, and even if it's an underperformer, it's still A weapon.
Even if gold axes are so-so in the arena, artifacts do better than the qualityless weapons in the arena.

Heh, my bad. It's unarmored. Every actual hit was a torn muscle, severed limb, or torn artery.
