It's dubious whether they had a warrant for this.
Sounds like the police are at least claiming they did, and there's certainly been plenty of similar cases where the police were following a technically valid warrant.  If you took away the warrants, you'd take away the raids, as even illegal raids wouldn't have the option of a post-facto cover-up that exists now.

More accurately, it's doubtful that they had a no-knock warrant, since they claim that they did knock.

Ah.  Well, usually the judge shares the blame.

Something I've noticed is that the American police are growing increasingly estranged from the populace. Both police and civilians have a strong "us vs them" mentality. There seems to be a sense among both of them that the other party is out to get them.
There also seems to be a sense that this is the natural way of things, although I could be wrong here.

I live in Europe. My impression of the police is not that dyllic. It doesn't seem to be as bad as what's reported to happen in the US but it's also a self-regulated corps prone to abuses. I witnessed myself (from a moving bus) how a bunch of policemen (regional police force) wrestled a running guy to the floor, and kicked him when he was down.

I've watched the exterior helmet cam and they DID knock, however it was never 45 seconds, and it was actually pretty rushed and low key. The entire operation from arrival to the death of the victim was under a minute.
