How to get around quicker?
« on: May 28, 2011, 09:52:02 am »

I've just hit the magma sea, blue stuff and HFS all at the same time, so you can probably understand the sense of urgency there is in flooring up the hole I dug quite quickly :P However, the builder is in the fortress some 140 z levels up and it's taking him ages. Is there any way to speed up travel through huge amounts of z levels? With the dwarf alive when he gets there, of course. ;)

You can set hotkeys for important positions throughout your fortress. See here for details: http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Hotkeys

Save out your game, go set dwarves to have [speed:1] in the raws, load the game back up, bring up dwarf therapist and set every dwarf in your fort to have the masonry skill, unpause and watch your stuff get built in no time.

If you'd like a somewhat legitimate way of doing things, stationing a dwarf on a drawbridge and having him fall down a chute onto a cat probably won't hurt him. Maybe.

Play with less Z-levels. AKA, use only 1 or 2 cavern layers.
