[Hubris Incalculable]

At fniff's long-ago request (sorry, man, I haven't been checking my pm's), I have decided to restart ACH. new setting, though.

EDIT: i figured i'd post the "rules" of the original ACH here:

Okay. this is a complete free-former. no rules. make shit up as you go along.

The Kalahari Desert. 930,000 kmē of sand, acacia trees, grasses, the full cast of The Lion King, and coke-bottle-wielding bushmen. A blistering wind blows across the sand, and from one of the trees, a monkey chatters angrily.

Hugh whistles to himself as he takes in the scene. Pretty. It won't be, for long. Not if this is anything like last time. He takes out a pack of cigarettes, lights one, and holds the pack out to the rest of the group. "Cigarette, anyone?" he asks.

[ggamer]

"Not me. I don't smoke."

The tall, lanky figure of john garcia leans back against the wall.

"I would kill for a dip right now though."

"Not likely, pal. Nearest lake is the Makgadikgadi." He chuckles at his own joke.

[ggamer]

"hahahah. You go without chewing tobacco for three weeks, let's see how you like it, Hugh."

[Hubris Incalculable]

((Oh. I genuinely thought you meant a swim ("dip" as in a term for a short swim, to cool down). I had no idea the term was used for chewing tobacco. My joke was that you couldn't take a swim, as the makgadikgadi is entirely dried out.))

"Oh. that kind of dip. just shake out a cigarette into your mouth, should tide you over."

[ggamer]

John gives a very :I face to Hugh.

"Nah, I'm not that desperate. So what are we waiting for?"

"I dunno, what are we waiting for? let's do this."

Hugh steps out of the van and into the desert, bearing eastward. after about 5 metres, he turns around and walks back.

"Consarnit,  I clean forgot what it was we were going to do. anyone?"

"Oh, yeah. I remember, now. The Botswanans called us here to deal with some kind of monster. I don't remember what they called it, but they said it was big, man-eating, and had eyes on it's feet."

[choobakka]

King walks out from behind the van with a large book.
"It's a large abomination. C-alpha class. Probably some kid trying to get a girl messed up the spell. From the tracks, it's headed to the east."
He closes the book. "Let's go!"

"Dammit, fine"

Garcia grabs his Walter P38 and follows King.

Hugh loads up on grenades and makes sure his magic wand is safely stowed in is left sleeve. He locks up the van, and erects concealment wards around it, then chases after the others, who obviously have no idea where they are going.

King puts on his glasses. "Can see its trail. It went that way" He points across the desert "And then took a left towards that other patch of empty sand." He takes off his hat and draws a pistol, walking quickly towards the monster's destination. "Hurry up before it kills again. We don't want a repeat of Prague. Or Petrograd. Or Bangkok. Or... Well... EVERY TIME WE DO THIS. So get moving."

"Hey, Angleton TX went well, we actually managed to cage the thing and get it shipped of to a medical lab for research. Thats one PROPER success, anyway. fine, let's move. Got the binocs?"

[choobakka]

King reaches into his hat and hands Hugh the binoculars. "Angleton only went well because we had the whole POLICE FORCE helping us. And we still lost five of them. Admit it: for heroes we REALLY SUCK."

*grumblegrumble* "fine, i admit it. we're terrible."

Hugh lifts the binoculars to his eyes, and applies a temporary zooming spell to them. Panning around in the general direction of the tracks, he sees it: a dark-skinned giant, as tall as the acacia it's standing beside.

"there, dead ahead. you're right, king, it does look like a backfired spell, probably pentagram based. Let's hurry, before we lose it."

"Oh, and... You keep your binocs in your HAT? since when?"
