He is incredibly quick to heal
« on: May 27, 2011, 01:34:12 pm »

So, Sigun Tickplanks, Militia Commander of Swordworld and total badass finds himself at the front when a vile force of goblin lashers arrive. Being lashers, and there being like eight of them, one of them gets through, tearing up his shoulder and taking off his shield hand. What he does afterward is the stuff of legends.

He sprints through the 1-square tunnel entrance, through the group of lashers. I assume he's doing what any injured dwarf trying to retreat would do: run blindly into danger. I guess that might actually have been what he was doing.

Apparently, about five seconds later, he turns back, I check his status, his shoulder has gone from cut open to dented("I ain't got time to bleed!") and he's hunting down the guy that was chasing him away from the entrance. He cuts him apart and heads back into the fray, and goes to town on the goblins still trying to fight through the entrance. At some point, the goblins decide it isn't worth it, and go to retreat. He can't catch them all, but few of them live.

Fortress life comes out of alert mode, and only now does he head down to the hospital for treatment.

A few ingame days later, a lazyass diagnostician decides to go check him out. As it so happens, he has wolverine'd all of his injuries away except for his hand. But whatever, he's a dwarf. Last I checked, he was carrying around his new shield in the same hand as his axe.

He is incredibly quick to heal.

So can you actually train for this attribute?

When they aren't being incredibly stupid, most well-equipped and well-trained military tend to be badass.

What's amazing is that apparently, "Incredibly quick to heal" is not the highest degree of recuperation a dwarf can achieve. I guess it describes a stat from 1000-1999, or something like that, while "Possessed of amazing recuperative abilities" or something of that order is from 2000-5000.

I had one possessed of amazing recuperative powers once and he healed all his wounds once before the battle ended, since then I always look for dwarves high in this stat for my military haha.

EDIT: Oh, and you cannot train this stat, it will always be what they start with, so it is something to really look for when picking your recruits.

Here's how the chain of events would go with that tag:

Lose hand
Look at stump
Glare at goblin
Tear off goblin's hand
Beat goblin to death with it
Attach goblin hand in place of his missing one
Go get drunk

I just found his hand sitting in the entrance. How to properly commemorate it?

Grind engravings and statues until I have a collection of images of him?

Commit it and seven of his preferred animals to the magma?

Assign it to him as a weapon? If possible.

The hand will get moved to a refuse stockpile until he dies (hope you ain't got the ethics modded so that dwarves butcher and eat their own kin!).

Make a cool shrine, and then dump the hand in the middle of it. If and when the millitary dwarf does die, make the shrine his tomb.

Try and get it into a refuse stockpile with a good barrel, gold or silver, then build a shrine around said barrel.

If you give him a tomb, would his hand be buried there already?

And I'm sure that being injured trains the stat, yes, provided the dwarf in question survives.

I used to scoff at that statistic, thinking it was mostly useless. No more shall I. My recruits are going to have some serious evaluation in this field from now on. (They still won't survive the magma, though.)

We have that already. It's called "Where the assholes that generate unresolvable cancellation spam go to die."

Or at least it was originally called that. When a few of them survived to walk again, thanks to the working medical system, they became the Maimed Legion and were set aside to fight forgotten beasts with poisonous extracts or fire. I can manufacture high skills in a danger room, but high attributes are truly a rare gift.

Oh dam, your right! oh well, i've got a dwarf the same level as the Op leading my military, that must be a good thing. I've seen him heal bruises in a single day before. (and due to his virturally unbreakableness, those bruises would probably have broken bones on a lesser dwarf.)

with regards to the hand, back in '40d at least, if it goes into a refuse pile outside it'll eventually dissapear. Inside it'll be ok though.
