Okay then. Any suggestions for our base names/unit designs/tech goals/expansion priorities/whateverelse?

I'm guessing we'll have enough interested parties to name bases on a per-case basis. You can also just call them Base 1, Base B, etc. until you put up a screenshot and we can decide the bay it's on looks like Pac-man or something.

As for everything else, not really. I tend to prefer bases well spread-out, with no overlapping radii at the very least, but that's just me. Experience has shown I also seem to prefer getting my delicious bases and formers eaten by mindworms.

I also prefer coastal cities, for what that's worth. My ideal base would probably be Muppet Labs, the energy-and-food heavy coastal research center.

If you ever find Mount Planet, I'd approve of having a base built right at the top. Either that or a base with tons of mineral bonuses in the vicinity. I want to have a Prototype-testing industrial complex.

Unfortunately, you cannot build a base on top of Mount Planet.

I suggest naming bases after RL Universities.  Everyone throw in their Alma Maters.

It is perfectly possible for you to build bases on top of Mount Planet, so long as the terrain there isn't Rocky. I've done it before.

I'm pretty sure it won't let you build on the lava. If you mean right next to the top, especially diagonally, that's indeed perfectly doable.

But then, I've never tried de-rockying the lava, so maybe you're right.

If you were Morgan I'd say Thin-Expansion all the way (Morgan really thrives on a thin Builder strategy), and it's one that would work out alright for University too.  Beyond beelining for the Virtual World (which we need to cover our future drone problems if we don't want to just nerve staple everyone) I'd suggest expanding out immediately to about six bases, consolidate and build upwards until we're strong enough to manage another outward expansion (probably we should aim towards Tree Farms after that - remember that Tree Farms and Improved Tree Farms are the Holy Grails of the Builder game).

Unless we reckon it's worth playing a Momentum game?  The University's tech advantages could give us enough of an initial boost to start blazing away on everyone else before they can build up their strengths.

I'd go with a clear builder strategy, with rapid expansion.  Free network nodes are a great advantage, as long as you have lots of bases.  Stay on Morgan's good side if you meet him since he can play merry hell with his probe teams.  I agree on virtual world, and maybe weather paradigm if we can swing it.

Here's the underwhelming first update. Nothing much happened.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

What do we do now? Build formers and improve our territory, or build colony pods to grab more land? I'm almost certain we're on an island.

If we're truly on an island, colony pods are useless, as we no longer have land onto which we can expand.  So formers.

Focus on foil tech, we can form sea colonies and seize land on foreign shores.

Just to clarify, I didn't mean we were on a small piece of land, just that there don't seem to be any other factions on the same bit of land. If there was, we'll have met them by now. AI factions seem to always know where you are, and will send units all the way up to your borders, even if they're on the other side of the continent.

Also, which secret projects should we go for? Weather Paradigm and Human Genome Project are open already, and we'll have Virtual World/Command Nexus/Merchant Exchange within the next couple of updates.
