Holy crab this is the dumbest thread I have seen in a long time.

Anyway, if someone challenged me to a duel, I would go for fists.

What about you guys?

I think I find the idea of some sort of well-known ritualized courting that doesn't rely on being sketchy attractive because it would make things much easier for me...

What is easy is not always right.

Sorry, dudebro, you and your pokemon cards were clearly too manly for this world.  Perhaps in the next universe there will be untold hordes of brainless, emotionless barbie-doll women prepared to drool over you and your battling skills.  You will be drowning in drool.  And then you'll be stuck back here again, with a greater understanding of why female autonomy is a good thing.

...

That little fantasy may have jumped the shark.  But whatever.

Dueling over women?  I choose well-sourced feminist debate.

[sarcasm]Thats my duel choice breadbocks you can't have it[/sarcasm]

In all seriousness, if ever asked to duel, I'd take this shit straight to the source, involving both of us going up to the lady he's apparently fighting with me over, and having us both ask her out at the same time.

If she accepts, we'd go on a triple date, and the man she likes best at the end of the evening wins. IMO, it would be a battle of actually solving the problem without killing eachother or being demeaning to women.

Suddenly I am reminded of Rashomon. The bit where the woman  tells the bandit she'll leave with him if he kills his husband in a duel, and then the husband refuses to fight, because she's not worth it (after all, she is willing to leave with the first outlaw they've met). The bandit realizes he's right, and decides to leave her as well.

Of course, after that moment in the film, they end up fighting anyway because the woman calls them cowards, which is kind of nonclimatic. But I can't help but thing the husband had the right idea in the beggining.

Talking about dueling is much more fun than whatever this thread was originally about!

Anyone familiar with Abraham Lincoln's famous duel?

I didn't know that! Pretty interesting though, and would make for a nice parable!

Anywho, if two people held a non-lethal duel over the right to court me (IE take me on a date or something), I'd totally play along. It doesn't mean I would stop considering the loser afterward and senselessly throw myself into the arms of the victor, but there's something adorably foppish about the notion of dueling over someone's affections. Sure, it's stupid and primative (may as well be butting heads in a rut with some deer), but the willfulness behind it is a little bit charming. While the artsy sorts may play a song or create something crafty as an expression of love, perhaps lunkheads are best suited to express their love by beating the crap out of other people who they think would be a bad influence on someone they're attracted too? I'm sure there's something there, at least.

If I were in a duel myself, I'd probably want it to be a duel of Impromptu Sung Verse, and Sick Rhymes. Not only would I have a decent chance, but it'd be the most fun to witness, I think.

I'd challenge him to a courting duel obviously.

For a duel, I'd probably pick some sort of gaming. Mario Kart Double Dash or Wii, most likely. I'd say Guitar Hero, but I'd probably lose.

Also, to those on page 1 wondering if he's serious: Yes, he probably is. This is the guy who made the creepy language stalking thread in LA and the creepy language stalking thread in Creative Projects.

Pistols, or course.

I'd duel someone if they insulted my honor enough, honestly. Although a duel of courtship would be kinda silly in this day and age.

Everyone knows there's only one true way to duel over matters of honor and territory - switchblades in one hand, other hand tied together.  Do you wanna be a boy, or a man?

Personally, I'm happy "honour" is dead. It is hars to think of a more stupid, egocentric and juvenile concept. Here, this is some of what "honour" brings. On the topic here in Sweden right now is how a family felt they had been dishonoured by a young man, and challenged him to a glorious, romantic duel at dawn over the right to court their daughter had him tortured, beat and poured boiling oil on him before they killed him by stabbing him around 20 times, and finished their honourful deed by scalping him. Then the parents convinced their 17 year old son that taking the full blame and the sentence for the murder was the honourful thing to do.

So yeah, I won't weep for this "honour" of yours.

So wait, you challenged someone to a duel over a girl... and then wondered why she didn't go for you? Maybe it's because you tried to duel someone as if we're in the 18th century. Perhaps. (Although an old fashion duel with flintlocks would be pretty damn cool).

I would go apeshit if I could set terms for a duel. Midnight, both combatants in glow-in-the-dark clothing. Opposite sides of a street, on bicycles. You have to throw circular saw blades.
