Flame FB
« on: May 26, 2011, 10:28:47 pm »

In the past I've gotten water and snow FBs. They all went down fairly easily with a few bolts but their corpses always brought syndromes to my people.

I've just shot down a "quadruped composed of flame" named Lish and he's left 5 " Lish's flames " in the cavern. Is it safe to have my dwarfs pick these up and do something with them? Will they combust?

Not sure if this helps, but "Lish" burned the entire cavern he was in, filling it with smoke and ashes. He was also hot enough that he boiled off a small lake that lay between the fort and his location.

The flames that once made up that forgotten beast's body are now completely harmless. Creatures composed of flame are very hot when they're alive, and undergo a flare-up when they die that sets fire to any flammable stuff they're on, but afterwards they rapidly cool off. By the time the fires that that flare-up caused go out, they're cool enough to handle safely.

Thank you, kind sir! You were entirely right. I'll atomsmash the flames because they seem good for nothing else.

Make food of them! Would be hillarious to see what the result would be.

You can't make food out of FB remains, can you? I had a salt FB a couple weeks ago...

Inorganic FB remains (salt, flame, glass, vomit, etc) can't be used for anything, not even food.  At best, if you have the Display Case mod installed, you can stick them in a display case.

Imagine if they could.

But does it come in +cat tallow+ and -cat meat- flavors?

You *can* make food out of organic FBs. It's not poisonous or annything. Though at best it's creepy and at worst you'll realize too late that it has a slow-acting syndrome that the butcher managed to track all over the fortress.

And since they're so huge, one or two beasts can feed a fort for years on abomination cat or theropod or whatever meat and prepared organs. And more *bone bolts* that you will ever need. And fat. You might also be able to harvest their skin, though I don't recall ever seeing someone walking around in forgotten beast leather.

Dwarf Fortress: Where having Cthulhu move into your basement means a windfall of meat, bones, and tallow.

On the subject of fire FBs, it can have some hilarious side effects. I have a veteran of a battle with one such beast walking around with "His upper right leg's fat is gone. His left index finger's fat is gone."
