Azen walks forward, very cautious.
A guard would never be a very good guard if he couldn't tell a kobold from a rhesus macque!

"Eh, can't complain. You get a bit jaded though, watchin' a bunch'a guys start a fort, then comin' back next winter n'd finding nothin' but bones."
The guard eyes the golem trotting alongside the wagon.
"So where'd you get that thing, anyways?"

(lie) Gathered the parts and had my cousins employees fix it back together. He thinks hes a great smith but his employees do all the fine work (true)

So what kind of things do these forts succumb to?

Tholtig gets a slightly worried expression at the guard's explanation. "So... you don't think we'll have any of those problems, do you?"

The kitchenette mold free, you move on to the pantry. it's nasty in there. The bacon is grazing on the lettuce. The ham is having an illicit affair with the prime rib, The potatoes see all, know all. A rat in boxer shorts smoking a foul smelling cigar is banging on a cabinet shouting about rent money.

"Eh, who c'n tell? Yer goin' to a pretty fortified spot, out'a the way 'nd easy to defend, jus' the one chokepoint. So, gobbos w'ld have a bad time assaultin' ya, they'de prop'ly go fer the softer human lands to the south. Right, ya boys?"
"Right." replies the other guard.
"Goblins and humans have been at each others throats for years now. The goblins will raid a field every few months, or assault a town, then the human king will send the army out and theyll play cat and rat for a while before losing the trail. Gets everybody riled up, it does."

"Oh, well that's good. Except for the war part, I guess."

Tholtig brightens up a bit.

"So, will you be the guards for the next caravan out here? I'm Tholtig, by the way."

"Oh, good," Tholtig said cheerfully. "I'm a glasscrafter. Maybe I could make you something once we get set up."

"So..." Muttered the Dwarf resting against the large Canine while picking the dirt out from under his nails with the small Utility knife. The Axe at his hip clinked lightly against the mail armour under the Splunker's Uniform as the Dog's chest expanded and compressed with each breath. Pushing himself to his feet fully he patted the Riding Dog's side before reaching up into its saddle to ruffle the fur of his Cavern Rat...
"What are we calling this place anyway? All great forts need a Name..."
