why arn't my hunting animals helping in the hunt

i've asinged several huntin animals to my hunter but none of them are helping him...whats going on

he's hunting alright infact ironicly as soon as he ran out of amoo and fell asleep three of his hunting animals came to his side....

They should help hunt now, they were just too far away to help him do so.

While they're hunting, creatures are stealthed. While stealthed, their movement speed is modified based off their AMBUSHER skill. Animals, especially hunting animals, are typically somewhat faster than a dwarf, but they don't gain skills and thus get their movement speed killed by that stealth modifier. As a result, hunters will often actually outrun their hunting dogs, get too far away for the dogs to support them, and just kill things themselves. Hunters gain limited benefits from having hunting animals due to this problem.

after the what assumed to bea power nap on the middle of the ground the hunter/ranger went on to kill many irds and groundhogs, one notable kill was the hunter letting a turkey bleed all the way out as its guts spilled for the ants.
