*SUGGESTION*"Elven camp mod"?

is it even possible?
with mining completely disabled?
all other jobs permitted?
and,on top of that,is it even done before?

Yeah.

But you'll have a hell of a time trying to build. No wood, no stone. No metal either. No fuel. And worst of all.... NO MAGMA!

Buildings could be made from clay,and weapons from bones.
and "hell of time" is really something im looking for.
especialy the hell part.

Elves can't use magma, and they don't use clay weapons. They don't mine, so they can't make coke. And of course they won't make charcoal.

If all other jobs are permitted, you'd still be able to cut trees, though you'd have to trade for an axe unless you did more modding.  Also, I'm not sure they have enough noble positions, so you would probably want to mod in a manager and I think a couple other ones.  I was gonna say you can't use clay either, but I keep forgetting you can build with the clay and only need fuel to make items from it.  and if you embark on a volcano with clay, problem solved.

You could also make a workshop that just spawns logs when somebody is working it.  And there's already wood weapons and armor that elves make.  I'm not sure if the way it's set up allows you to make them if you enable elves in fortress mode though.  You might need to do something extra for that.

At least, from what I heard, it's completely possible to disable mining, and doing so should remove the option to select it entirely.

elves use wood, at least in my DF. they come with wooden weapons.

so is there a way of changing "axe" into something like "regrowth stick" that  "moves the tree to your wanted position"?

It is very possible actually. A lot of the issues posted so far could be handled with reactions. Need wood? Make a reaction to summon/conjure it, maybe with some reagent, maybe make it free. Need weapons grade materials? Reactions! Make some magic treated wood like in Deon's Genesis mod. As long as you don't keep yourself constrained to conventional game mechanics this could be done very easily and if you take the time to learn the ins and outs of modding it can be done very well.

You'd probably want to create a new weapon.  I think anything in the axe category works, since humans can use things like great axes and halberds to cut down trees.  A Shaping Stick weapon that is designated as an axe and turns a tree into a log might fit story wise with what people expect from elves.  Though I'm not sure if edges and material affect woodcutting speed or not.  And I don't think you can change the fact that cutting trees requires woodcutting.


Oh, and I highly suggest doing whatever you want.  Trying to mod humans in how I want them is how I learned to mod.  It's pretty fun, even if you don't go for trying to mod in the most insane thing you can think of.

Actually, I just remembered that you could change the name of the woodcutter title to like, shaper or something.  And also, I think elves base whether they hate you on how many logs you have lying around, though I don't think your own civ will try to put down a rebellious colony.

And they don't torture trees unless you make them.  I think right now they just like appearify logs or something, and they don't build buildings.

shaping stick? nay,i just think i add an option,to "gather wood"(yes,picking up sticks and branches,not "cutting trees")
which summons wood.
I also think that i copy the mining part from kobold camp,so we could still make stone arrowheads and weapons.
From few stones we could mine.
We will have no tanners(or do have?),but have bonecarvers and such.
...
i think its just easier to take the kobold camp mod and edit it >^>

For Elf Forest (a mod that I built and abandoned), I renamed Woodcutter to Summoner and added a "great tree". The "great tree" produced "wood pieces", which could then be used to make any type of wood at the same "great tree". Mining is absolutely unnessesary when there is so much wood, so I simply built a fortress (carpentry, plant gathering was enabled). Wooden weapons were handled in a custom workshop, and included swords and bows (arrows were enabled with the "bowyer" skill). Lastly, brewing was enabled.

Elves could floor over exposed volcano magma and build forges that way.
