As we pass the halfway point on one of the largest updates in DF history, I feel that it is time to start arranging the traditional Donatathon, where loyal DFers pledge to contribute to member-supported Dwarf Fortress on the release date! In this way, we can all together thank Toady One and Three Toe for all the hard work they do!

It is traditional to add the Paypal fee on top of your donation, at 2.9% of the donation, plus 30 cents.

I'd like to mail the donation directly, instead of giving PayPal kickbacks. Is airmailing mildly concealed paper money as risky as it sounds?

It's not all that risky AFAIK, but it's probably more expensive.

The Paypal fee is 2.9% + 30 cents.  I don't know about the risks of mailing cash, but there are probably safer things that can be mailed out like checks and money ordery thingies.  Anything I can walk into a bank works for me.

(edit: also reiterating that this release is not the entire army arc...  there won't actually be lots of new things for you to do as a player)

Paper money through the mail (as long as it's not obvious) isn't really that bad. When I was a wee lad I used to get birthday cards with a 10$ bill from my Grandma every year... Never went missing. All you have to do is pay postage. Money orders are kinda pricey, last one I had to send somewhere, all I needed was 5$ and it cost an extra 4$

I can donate paper to write the note on it right now, but not much else. Have to wait until I have a job again before I can send any donations out. But I certainly pledge to send something as soon as I can(which will be a few weeks after the records place down in St Louis get off their lazy butts and send me my mental health records so I can convince the doctors that despite my RE-1A reenlistment code for the US Marines, I certainly am sane enough to enter the Wyoming Air National Guard. No clue why the "If he wants back in grab him" reenlistment code didn't do this, but military Intelligence isn't an oxymoron because it sounds cool.)

And the army arc release 1 has EVERYTHING! Don't you see! Real Borders, Roads, Adamantine actually bringing the king instead of a random child...

I have also decided that next time I go to the corner store I'm picking up a florida lotto ticket.  If I win Toady gets 10% (can't give more than I would give individual members of my family)  

Anyway last I checked the jackpot was a lowly 6 mil.  But better than nothin.  After all those crit rockets I took to the face today in team fortress I have a bit of luck coming my way.

EDIT: Got a ticket. Drawing is April 2nd.  be prepared for disappointment Wednesday night.
