What's the best base armour?

Imperial Boilerplate is pretty good, but Ulmish has alright Magic resist.

Floor 5 or 6, I can't remember. Then the save was corrupted and I had to delete it.

I was going Axes, Norse Magic, Blacksmithing, Burglary, Shields, Armor, and Berserker Rage, I think.

Got to floor 10 once using a clad-yourself-in-heaps-of-metal-and-wail-at-stuff-until-it-dies build. It was before YHTNTEP came out, so I can't quite remember what skills I had. It was something like: maces, berserker, shield bearer, master of arms, smithing and two other skills I can't remember. Basically super defence and large amounts of procs in melee.

I once ran across Horse Armor in the shops, which has 50 block chance and 50 damage reduction

Go back a few pages and see what happened when I bought it. And it's 50 armour absorption and 50 piercing resistance.

Anyway, got to 10 here and then was murdered by a robot.

Horse Armour: For those who buy DLC, we salute you.

"Truly an extravagance for those who can afford to throw their money into oblivion."

Got to floor 15 with a Wizard build, opened a door, saw Dredmor and about six other monsters in a small crafting room.

Slammed the door, stood next to it, and began chain-casting the Astrology capstone.  Used 2˝ full bars of mana, roughly 600 MP.

Took him down through the door, he never got a single move against me.  It felt cheap, but I'll take it.

So, can a melee/firearms whatever type build kill Dredmor?

Bolts of squid are suprisingly deadly.

What resistances does Dredmor have?

Because it'd be horrible to launch a squid bolt at him just to see him shrug it off due to necromantic resistance.

Crossbow types can, sure.  Fire all of your BoMD, then your Squid Bolts, then just plunk away whenever you get a chance.

Throwers probably can do the same if they invest in the new clockwork sawblades.

Priority is on staying alive via keeping up healing and resists.  Also consider wielding two Mirror Shields or Mirror Darkly Shields, to reflect all his ray spells.  Be advised that his electric attack can't be reflected, so you need to be able to tank it.  If you're not ready, he can one-shot you with it.

If you can silence him, things are easier.  Magic Training and Magical Law have silence spells, and I think Clockwork Knight?.  Also the Sonic Wand, but I'm not sure I'd trust that, it's a beam so it might bounce off him.

Melee is harder, as far as I know.  He supposedly hits hard.  Concentrate on getting as much damage reduction (white armor icon) as you can, or raising Dodge (yellow swish icon) way over 100.  On attack damage types, go for high core damage types instead of exotic types, as he resists almost everything.  Exception: he's weak against righteous damage.

Dredmorpedia says Dredmor has:
Spoiler: Dredmor's resistances (click to show/hide)

The 'pedia also has stats for a "Tougher Lord Dredmor" who looks really scary.

Tougher Dredmor, the one on floor 15, has quite a bit more than those listed.

Also, ANY BUILD that can get to floor 15 can kill dredmor, if you have managed to save the resources for it.

Just buy out every throwing vending machine after floor 11, spam holy hand grenades and clockwork sawblades on him.

You'll need 30-50 of each, to be safe. More on going rogue.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Good 'ol Aethereal, nothing beats Aethereal.

Righteous damage is common on Chest O' Evil drops, which have the highest random damage pluses in the game.  I don't recall that CoE weapons can get Aethereal damage.

A CoE crossbow with +25 Righteous is a Dredmor killer, even if he fully resists the weapon's base damage.
