I think the stars are the "item level" of the base item without magic adjustments. Better base items have higher stars generally, but I don't think it affects anything except perhaps rarity?

I am mostly guessing with this.

"I probably can save some space, by storing Lutefisk in the Lutefisk Cube."
Now I have a hundred pieces Lutefisk less.

Anyway, clearing my first zoo on dungeonlevel 2 and it's going rather well.

Wow, I was just given an artifact for donating a single lutefisk 0.o Too bad I don't use shields :(
Was it a terrible shield or was it actually ok?

It was pretty okay actually, I hadn't seen an orb shield with that many stat bonusses before. I also stole a staff worth 56k from the shop on level 1. The pig didn't notice it :D Until I accidently walked towards another shop, getting the message ''You stole blablabla'' and getting my ass kicked by the shop keeper. Those dreads aren't that bad actually, my fire rune took care of those pretty easily :)
Actually I didn't have trouble with the dreads when I tried stealing. It was Brax himself that gave me trouble.

Yea, Brax the shopkeeper killed me with one hit. I wonder if he's killable, seeing how I couldn't seem to scratch him. I can imagine him equipping all the artifacts he possesses and using them to kill me, putting them down again once I'm dead :P

the key here is to never remove lutefisk from the cube until you are at a lutefisk statue, you can grow the stack by tossing more items on top of the stack.
The same goes for the other craft boxes, but I don't know if they will stack outputs if you run the same recipe multiple times in a row.

Just beat dredmor on going rogue difficulty with permadeath, it was surprisingly easy.  I had mathamagician and promethean so as soon as I saw him I just teleported away round a corner and threw a fireball next to him.  Then I summoned a wyrmling to keep him busy while I cast the zenzizen thing a couple of times. After that it only took I think two golden ratio's to kill him.

Pure mages are very overpowered, as you raise your spellpower it decrease the cost of spells so you can spam them, monsters usually attack your summons instead of you, and if you get trapped you've got teleport as an escape plan.  Really the only danger is accidently walking into your own spells or setting off traps, the traps get very lethal after around level 5.

Sadly, they don't.
When you smelt stacks, you always need to remove the outcome after every action.

Heh.
I was wise to boost my heavy armour early. Nothing can scratch me...yet.

Because I bought two good swords as well, I can just stand there clicking zoos to death.

I actually was so close to killing him with a guy on level 5 of the dungeon. This is where turning off permadeath is cool. You can experiment with "what happens if I steal this" without losing a character to goofy experimentation. Anyway, my pure melee character got him down to 1 hit from his death. I'm sure a mage or anyone who can keep their distance by about dungeon level 5 should be able to take down Brax.

Since our saves dont work anymore-
anyone have any suggestions for a new battle-magish class?

If you like the save, keep it, it will likely work tomorrow.

In response though, I had a lot of fun with a heavy hitting beserk dual wielding armored maceman assassin, carrying promethean magic fuelled by the blood of my fallen enemies. Died by delving too deep too fast (level 5) but suspect it is a perfectly viable class.

All spell skills, no boosts. Necronomiconimics, Viking Magic, Promethian, Golemancy, Mathemagic, and Psionic. But you avoid leyline walker, blood magic, magic training, alchemy, fungal arts or staff skill.

It may not work very well...

I suspect anything with duel wielding might be a viable class.  Lots of damage + high counter rate seems pretty powerful.

I mean heck, why even bother trying to increase block or damage reduction stats when counter prevents 100% of the damage AND hurts the enemy.  I wish I could pick duel wielding for all my skills.   :P

Got a pretty neat mace for lutefisk. Done clearing level 2.

Too bad smithing is useless by now.

The fine steel mace you can make with smithing is pretty damn good...
