Civilization type cross-forum game
« on: May 23, 2011, 08:28:33 pm »

So, I was wondering about this idea. I got it from zombie rpg, which is run on both the MSPA forum and Bay12.

What if we get a sort of game where There are two teams, like a Rouge-alike. I was actually looking around, and I remember a few games which wouldn't work out on here, but maybe cross-forum it would.

The games I remember were zombie master and the roll to deathmatch. They were both abandoned because You couldn't run it without people cheating and looking at the other topic.

So, anyone on board for a game like this? any ideas?

Certainly interesting, but there's nothing strictly preventing cheating cross-forum either.

There's also the issue of trying to reconcile two different forums' tastes and habits, which might be a nonissue or a serious impediment.

I think the taste and habits will mostly likely result in a delicious steamroller of memes

I think we should all swear to stick to one of the forums. Since I only have an account here, that'll be easy.

Okay, I have it now.

A game, similar to Civilization. The other forum would not be named, and territory claiming would take place. The players of one forum would not know what the players of another were doing. The only way to find out would be to scout, or to accidentally run into them. I'll think of some more details and rules later, anything you guys would like to add?

That sounds cool. I would need to see the rule set before, but I would join.

Will there be enough interaction to allow the forums to share jokes?

Ah, that's the difficult part.

Maybe it would be that you could send messages between the forums, and you could see what territories they held, but you could not see Specifics, I.E. GDP, Investments, Buildings in the territories, Armies, etc.

Could be interesting. Might make for sort of an odd divide, since everyone on each forum would know of each other but not the other guys, but that could work to your advantage, especially if there was some obvious distinction between the two groups.

Also note that since we'd be forced to communicate through the GM cross-forum, but could presumably openly discuss it or PM each other here, it'd generally be a lot easier to communicate and get to know each other on the same forum, while it might be a bit easier to cut deals nobody knew about cross-forum.

So, very interesting all around. I'd personally hope for the forums uniting somewhat to combat or at least vaguely oppose each other, with one or two from each side working a deal with the enemy.

I defiantly think the forums will split along some lines. After all, I can work with you people, but I will never know if the others are back stabbers or nice trustworthy people.

And that's the fun of it. Having to make unsteady alliances with foreign people...

Holy shit, I have the background for the game now.

Spoiler: Backstory (click to show/hide)

On the other forum, the roles would be switched. The foreign kingdom would be Bay12, and they would be the focus of their attention. Eventually, the two kingdoms would become aware of the other.

Ideas?

I like King Farnsworth, but I'd want to restore him to his rightful place of power. :P

I'd personally rather the starting events be relevant or vague, though. So if there's going to be a divine guardian who was slain, there should probably be its spawn that inhabitants of Twelve Bays can tame and ride but the foreign kingdom can't, or its skull should be an artifact people can get their hands on somehow, or something like that.

In other words, I feel Chekhov's Gun should be in effect in that regard: If it doesn't matter, don't mention it.

This sounds amusing and interesting, though I do have to wonder:
