I really don't understand people that (assuming a bit of expierience) only grow helmets. Farming other plants is not THAT difficult, and while the PHs are easy, they also aren't very valuable. And variety gives good thoughts, therefore quarry bushes, sweet pods and cave wheat are good! Also, having to process them first is dwarfy, only elves gnaw on uncooked mushroom all day long.

And then there are the people, like myself, who only grow plump helmets during the winter. And even then, only on a few plots.

I've got a way to get rid of the plump helmet. Kill every single grower, then put new ones in place, the same number, without skills.

There you go. For a few years, your production of plump helmets will be much lower. When these growers have good skills? Kill them.

Such a stupid waste of valuable growers...

Just make less fields. You should already be overproducing with a 18-tile farm and a few dedicated growers.

Why store the shrooms in barrels at all?

My raw ingredients are never in barrels, especially not at first when barrels are never plentiful enough.

This is ....well to put it bluntly, stupid. Better growers produce not only more, but also bigger stacks.

Always a good idea to Forbid a "seed bank" with one of each type to avoid this kind of agricultural accident.

And don't forget you can gather more plump helmets (and the other underground crops) if you dig down to the caverns...

That's a good idea...I'll have to do that going forward.  I'm already running low on some other seeds as well.

That being said, I did pierce the caverns so I have a few substantial tree/plant farms going on the uppermost level of my fort.

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

Why you just don't make Dwarven Wine and then cook it? You save seeds.

Because seeds are plenty anyway.

Build a plump helmet mini stockoile next to a kitchen, and prepare a load of prepared meals

I decided to stick all the elf traders I captured inside a room full of Dwarven Wine. I guided just a tiny bit of magma over the whole in the top of the room. The room became full of !!Dwarven Wine Barrel!! and later, bite sized Elf nuggets.

So booze is explosive indeed? I wasn't quite sure about that. The only time my food storage burned out I didn't notice it early enough to watch.

I wonder if it's technically possible to have a booze moat. And what happens if you set it on fire.

What a heinous waste of booze. Well, maybe not a total waste. Explosions are pretty dwarfy too. But there are non-booze destroying methods of inducing explosions as well.

It's not, booze behaves like blood, vomit, and other non-water/magma liquids. You could probably have a trench with booze spatters that would catch on fire, though. It would probably be more effective without the trench, though.

It's flammable but explosive? How do you know? I was making some experiments with fire, using a giant lizard as a source, but haven't observed any explosions. Unless they are not very remarkable. If there was booze in the barrel it simply vanished, after burning. Nickel barrels or porcelain pots don't burn. Wooden barrels burn, and some other too, but explosions?
