Goblin's 60ft darkvision?  Or not...
Oh, mind over matter to determine the position of the walls and traps?

Hmm...I wasn't really going to do racials though. I'll let you have darkvision, to an extent. It will be -1 to all darkness penalties-this applies primarily to underground races.

MoM would give you a bonus to moving through, and Earth Magicka too. Still, I just wanted to say you guys might want to find a lantern. :P

Leaf took a moment to catch his breath. He couldn't stand around long - the candle wouldn't last forever - but he felt he was due a bit of time to gather himself before continuing on. "It's too dangerous. What are we doing down here again?" Merame asked nervously, tugging at the cuff of his pants for attention. He knelt and patted her on the shoulder. "We have to investigate. Any knowledge or artifacts we find down here will be useful to our order, and our quest. It'll be OK, Merame." She clearly didn't believe that, but didn't voice any further complaints. "Let's look in here." He opened the door to his right.

-Mini turn-

Sheltering Leaves

enters the room carefully-he opens the door like he did the one before with his mind over matter, and steps back to avoid any traps. When nothing happens, he steps in, sweeping his candle in front of him. He can't see far ahead of him, but the room appears to be circular-the walls are lined with exotic runes, which could be deciphered if he spent the time to do so.

What draws his attention is the figure in the center of the room-it's the complete skeletal remains of a small dragon, about the size of a horse, laying on it's side, with a chain still attached to it's neck. It seems sad, somehow. Sheltering Leaves notices a long bricked over passage in the ceiling that was likely used to get it here.

In its front claws, there lies an unopened, unadorned, black stone chest. Surely some sort of trap..or maybe not. What could the chest contain?

OOC: I'm bored anyway :P

"I don't like the look of that skeleton..." "I don't either." Leaf looked at the chest, his arms crossed as he thought about it. "Merame, can you find out where that chain is attached to?" He wanted to make sure that if the dragon suddenly attacked he would have room to maneuver away.

Merame followed the chain from the neck of the creature to a padlock set in the ground a few feet away, hidden by fan of the dragons wing bones-it wouldn't be able to move very far from where it is. It if did attack, the chain would prevent it from moving even to the edge of the room. She noticed, however, the metal was old and corroded-and the piece holding the dragon to the lock was hanging on by a single half link. Apparently this creature must have struggled greatly, trying to escape, before it's death.

"The chain's almost broke," she reported, deciding not to touch the thing. "Come on, let's just get out of here and find some food. Wouldn't you rather be eating than poking around damp stony halls where there's traps and it smells really bad and there's dead things?" "Not particularly. These relics are of much greater interest than eating." He gestured at her. "Wait outside in the corridor. I'll open this chest; it would probably be better for you to be over there in case anything happens." "Sanera..." "Go. I can handle it." Merame looked unsure, but scampered back out into the corridor, where she plopped down on a safe tile with her arms crossed and watched. Sheltering Leaves moved to the chest. I don't want to disturb the skeleton too much, but I need to open that. With a sign, he went for the latch...

Sheltering Leaves gingerly brushes the dragons claws away from the chest respectfully, making sure not to damage them, lest he awake an angry spirit. There is no sudden movement. No twitch of unnatural life. Nothing. It's dead.

The chest opens with a *chuk*, as if you broke some sort of thin seal that was holding it closed. Inside, you find two things. A simple key, and a flute, resting on a bed of rotted blue silk.

The key has more of those strange runes on it-which, on closer examination, match the runes on the nearby padlock-you guess one opens the other. If so, why would they give a chained dragon the key to his own lock? And why wouldn't he use it to free himsef? If you could open the chest with one hand, why couldn't he? If the bones know the answer, they do not speak.

The flute seems ornate-it's shaped like the serpentine body of a snake, and it's eyes are made of glittering red crystals-you can see the tiniest points of light dancing deep within them. The instrument is made of the same black stone everything else is down here. He weighs it carefully, and it seems unusally heavy.

Leaf considered the items. A flute and a key... the key to the padlock here. An odd combination. Maybe the dragon couldn't use the key with its claws, but what is the flute for? He left that alone for the moment and took the key. Perhaps not the best idea... but his curiosity was getting the better of him. He used it on the padlock. "There, you're free now." A cold comfort since it was long dead, but if its spirit was still shackled here at least he could free that.

If nothing happens, take the flute and go check out the door across the hall. ^^

Sheltering Leaves cringes as the key slides in, turns and breaks off in the padlock. He's expecting something, anything to happen.. He thinks he hears...laughter. Very faint. Cold, and mocking. The Skeleton collapses without warning, the old bones turning into dust on impact.

Sheltering Leaves packs the flute and crosses the hall, glad to be rid of this gloomy place.

+1 Draconic Flute (unknown effect)

OOC: I'll throw the next room up when I do the next turn. You played that right-the Dragon's spirit would only have attacked you if you had tried to leave without opening the lock. You've released quite the sealed evil in a can here, though you don't know it yet. Good job hero! ^^

Edit: Remember, this place IS a prison. Be careful how many cells you open!

Turn 20

Actions
Sheltering Leaves: Go check out the door across the hall
Mending Moon: Go indoors, and try to find Sheltering leaves.  Apply healing if I find him
Silent Fox: Resist urge to rob graves. Get everybody together
War Wind:Take the crossbow then go look for that elf of ours.

-------------------------
Sheltering Leaves
Sheltering Leaves crosses the dark room to the adjacent door, and it opens easily to a practiced push. This time, he steps in assured they would not trap so indirect a route. The meager candlelight reveals a strange sight within-this room is circular, like the last one, but in the center of this one is a large hole, that takes off about half the area of the space here. It's covered with a heavy iron grate. He looks down, and see's only darkness below him. The grate seems stable, but it's been broken through in places, as if something climbed out from below...he looks up, and notices an even stranger sight. They look like human forms, only floating, suspended in mid-air as if by unseen cables...Sheltering Leaves looks closer. Spider Webs! In one of the bodies, he can just see the outline of a green Kai cloak! And it's still moving, barely...whoevers in there must be alive.

But that means...Sheltering Leaves hears 3 voices, echoing from above. To his surprise, they speak in native Old Elven-a nearly extinct tounge.

He makes out two female voices-one older and one younger, and a male.

-Another one of the Green cloaks approach.
-He looks badly injured. Pity. Not much fight left in him, I'd warrant.
-It's been so long since we've dined on an Elf...he's a pretty one, as well.
-Orders, matriarch?
-Capture him...alive. And that little furry animal too. I've never tasted one of those.
-He'll satisfy so much more than the other one.

Sheltering Leaves hears a rapid skittering of spider legs and the sees the web above him begin to vibrate as *something* makes its way down toward him...he still has a chance to flee, but he might not be able to open the door in time.

War Wind, Silent Fox, Mending Moon

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Concerned his friend is in trouble, Silent Fox gathers the other two and leads them to where he left Sheltering Leaves. War Wind stops to pick up a crossbow the acolyte dropped-it's easy to load in a pinch, though one needs a good amount of strength to do so, and of course, he has no bolts. The group decides haste is needed over caution-they proceed to the basement, and using Mending Moons Mind over Matter, easily open the door. It's pitch black inside, so Silent Fox drops to one knee and tries to feel out the path ahead of them with Earth magicka, whole Mending Moon uses his night sight to lead the way.

War Wind blindly stumbles behind them, holding onto the hem of Silent Foxes cloak. They pass the first trap-a swinging hammer-easily. Mending Moon sees the tiny chunks of stone that came down when the trap was triggered the last time. They mark and pass the trapdoor with Silent Foxes earth sense, also with no difficulty. All the Kai feel lucky they will not be seeing what's down there. Mending Moon steps right over the 3rd trap without difficulty...and so does Silent Fox! War Wind plants one large clawed foot right into the snare though-it whips him up, drawing blood from his leg, then snaps under his weight and sends him headfist into the floor. Ow.

(War Wind +1 One unloaded crossbow, -3 HP)

His friends help him up, and they enter the same room Sheltering Leaves did. Two doors, one right, and one left, and a spiraling staircase in front of them. All the Kai feel that Leaves entered the left door...and that he's in danger.

"Merame. Go. Now!" Leaf said, gesturing towards the door as he readied himself to fight. He wasn't sure he could escape in time, but at least he could hold these three off while his friend escaped... and his sense of pride told him he couldn't leave a fellow Kai behind, not to this fate. He gathered his energy into his hands; the first spider to attack was going to get hit with a Mystical Flash.

By the way: This (Leeroy Green) is the eventual plan for Leaf. :P
